PC achievements vs PS3 Trophies

Does anyone else think there is some mysterious appeal to trophies vs achievements that makes a person want to get more trophies where as not really caring while playing the same game on PC or the other way around assuming you play games on both ?
I find myself renting games on gamefly and enjoying the games and looking at trophies trying to figure out how to obtain these but not really going that far with PC gaming maybe i'm the only one that does this or am i ?.
what kills me with renting is the whole online pass thing which when your renting you don't bother with online passes because you don't own the game and this prevents you from getting all your trophies.
but with PC gaming you can't rent only buy games so you can get all your achievements if you want.
what do you guys/gals think ?
