That's rather unlikely when you consider that DirectX 11 didn't even launch until late 2009.

Yeah. DX11 was announced till 2008, nol launched till 2009. WoW didn't have it til 2010.

    SWTOR ignored it completely.

So you both have something to put in your pipe and smoke.

They skipped DX 10 entirely, it has almost all features from DX11.

    DX9 is museum tech.

E.g. in TSW you can either chose DX9 or DX11, look at all the features which are disabled in DX9 mode.

Same in AoC which runs in either DX9 or DX10

Somehow, I ended up lumping Dx10 and Dx11 together.  Age of Conan had some Dx10 features back in 2008.  It is like the guy above me says.  Dx9 is ancient museum stuff.

quite simply, it just gives people a reason to hate on swtor. it doesn't matter what it is, everything about this game (and many others created by larger game companies) has to be viewed as a negative to a lot of people around here.

i don't think it runs that bad at all on my computer until 100's of people get on my screen.

i also don't think hero engine has anything to do with why many people don't play this game.

they just use it for an excuse to bash on it.

It's a bad diagnosis of symptoms, but the symptoms are still there and are co-morbid with the many other bad systems in the game. I agree that the engine is being used as a scapegoat; but the game, as a sum of its parts, simply sucks.

    Well put.

One is curious here: Any idea why Bioware Austin would be hiring Technical Artist with requirement highlighted in bold :

    Experience with Frostbite engine required.

Frostbite is used in Battlefield (ala jets). As I do not see them translating all of the assets from Hero to Frostbite, I would suspect a new game sub system.

Space Project? Mass Effect is using it as well. Pure speculation /grin

As pointed out, Frostbite is an EA engine, and has been used exclusively in EA titles, both released and in production.

You would think they could just pick up their rolodex and call people who have worked for them before.

And just to be a negative Nancy, although Bioware Austin is currently devoted to SWTOR, there is no law that other games can't be developed there. The implications of Austin switching focus could be dire for SWTOR.

Just playing devil's advocate, it could be a SWTOR mini-game. I don't think it's the SSSP, since Frostbite has never been used for free-roam 3D space/plane games really. It has however been used for Need For Speed. (Think swoop racing, with upgrades for sale in the cartel shop.)

Maybe they did build a multi-player SSSP with Frostbite and need another guy to add to the team.

Who knows? Not us. Still a nice piece of sleuthing by Seven.

Possible:) I will welcome swoop racing with open arms LOL.

I was just curious, as this requirement was the only one highlighted bold - for me it was very unusual.

I'm only familiar with the older Need for Speed games, which were largely limited track pre-defined area (like most racing games).

EA has newer versions though .. even a multiplayer game?  I'm not familiar with it though, could someone explain it?  Is it limited to a track width? .. spec on their new engine too might be nice.

The frostbite engone is a poweful, polished, cross-platform (PC/PS3/360), engine. Here's the wikipedia entry.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frostbite_%28game_engine%29

EA uses it in all it's flagship titles, as does Bioware. (Mass Effect, Dragon Age)

As I said it is used in the latest Need for Speed.

It is not restricted to a "track" for vehicles. You can drive a jeep all over God's creation in Battlefield 3. Flying is a bit limited though; ergo my idle speculation.

And before you point it out, it's not used for MMO's.

So again, if the Austin job listing is SWTOR related, and not another project, I would guess a swoop racing mini-game.

But really it could be anything. Perhaps they need to do some of DA3 in Austin for tax reasons or a federal jobs program, or obligations to Texas to maintaiin a certain staff level in Austin for local tax purposes.

Speculation has a tendency to be speculative no matter who the gumshoe is. (There's another one for you Seven, you shamus.)

Sounds great! .. I only wish EA had that job posting 1-2 years ago :/
