Is anet planning on giving the servers labels soon?

Is there a server that most RP'ers migrate to in Europe(English speaking)?

Why didn't they think it'd be a good idea to add in offocial RP servers?

    Makes no sense not to.

THe RP servers - look on http://www.gw2guilds.org/ and look at the guilds and how they play. The game is not designed for open world PvP - so there isn't any.

The game is also not designed for Roleplay.  10 or less emotes available, at your disposal?  Can't site in chairs?  Limited social animations?  Can't socially eat or drink?

GW2 has chatbubbles, I'll give ArenaNet thumbs up for that, though.  But roleplayers need social interaction.  Someone in your group might wear some exotic stuff to roleplay in, and you need to ask them what they are wearing, because there is no /inspect in GW2?  Good way to break immersion with Out Of Character chat. /meh

    OP:

GW2 is not a very good game for roleplayers, even if the fans might say it is.  WoW has more roleplaying capabilities, which is sad since it's an old game, and developers never learn :( ... and WoW isn't even a very good game these days to boot.  SWTOR has way more roleplaying going on, even if EA is trying to flush that game down the shitter :(

    Roleplayers can't win.

what? I've never met a roleplayer that relies on emotes.

as long as it has a form of command to create your own emotes then it's all good, or even -'s will do.

I honstly thought the role playing was just talking to each in character...

All I ever see though is complaint threads by these guys that they can't sit in a chair or 'socially eat' or whatever though... I really do not get it.

If you want to RP, just RP.

    What's the drama?

emotes go a long way with chatbubbles.  Looking at a chat window to infer emotions is not preferrable to roleplayers.  An animation for /grovel /cry /rant etc goes a long ways, compared to "/emote rants.", "/emote crys", "etc.

The whole push for having chatbubbles for roleplayers was that they could act out their feelings and their story without staring at a static chat window.

For roleplayers, it's all about immersion .. watching the game window > watching a chat window.  I'm not sure how you play, but that is what I prefer, as a roleplayer.

The static window will never go away, because there are some things that just need to be expressed there.  But in a large group, it just hurts the eyes if there is too much spam.

as a roleplayer for several years, I've personally prefered to use my imagination, only a person new to roleplay would type an emote such as "/emote cries" if you add detail and make it longer then it's fine.

Who says there's no roleplaying in GW2? No matter what limitations the game has over others, (which isn't much in the terms of role playing) people find interesting ways to role play. image

So..Is it fairly common and easy to find RP on the unofficial Rp servers? ^-^

It could be passable in a small group (2 or 3 people), but large is what kills the moment, especially in a place such as a major town or hub, where people join in - come and go.  There is no comparison to actually seeing the person on screen with chat bubbles and with animations.  Chat bubbles in GW2 is very nice, but having to read a basic emote instead of seeing it isn't that impressive.

Case in point, in SWTOR, they have a huge emote list, but no chatbubbles.  In a guild meeting, it is annoying to have to link up what someone is saying with the graphical animations or /nod /sigh /stare /fidget etc... the animations go to the game window, the chat goes to the static chat window.  In GW2 it is the opposite, you have chatbubbles, but emotes need to be individually created vis /emote and they go to the static chat window.

It's the feeling of spacial geometry, of knowing where a person is, what they are saying, that adds to immersion.  Static chat windows is the pits, really.

Both games end up as meh for roleplaying .. though having animations I think is more powerful.  GW2 has a better engine for larger groups, which hurts all the more without a proper selection of emotes.

I was looking at some roleplay site for guild wars 2, they seem to have ways to deal with the lack of emotes. Just google it, piken square and tarnished coast seem to be the main servers.

Not really sure about the unofficial RP servers but on my server I see people acting out their characters or as their tonic critter (remember taking a screenshot of this conversation). Also in LA, guilds occasially bring out the kegs, cauldrons & buffet tables and hold events. But most of the time on my server people are just chillin outside the bank. Not sure if it's enough for the typical RP'er, because I'm all for just having fun.

The best game for RP emotewise was and will remain forever City of Heroes/Villains.

The game provided over 1000 emotes and you could really do anything and everything emotewise!

However, as others said, it always depends on the RPer and you can rp in gw2 even with less emotes than other games.

Since there were already more emotes in GW1, I'm sure that we will get more through patches aswell.

Maybe even in the January/February patches. :)
