They're both about zombies, right? TSW even has vampires and werewolves! They both should have the same mass appeal, and TSW has both a more established developer and publisher and superior DX11-capable graphics engine.
Yet what does Xfire say?

Hmmm, $15 low-budget Russian indie zombie game still in beta with a very bad reputation (I'm not going to say the game's a scam, but that's what's being put out there) and haters bashing it on every site beats $15 B2P (on Amazon) multi-million dollar EA-published zombie MMO that is a darling of the critics and has fanboys all over the place to defend it. And this was true even before WarZ's steam release and after TSW went B2P. War Z was also showing a steady sustained increase in Xfire numbers.
Where did it all go wrong for Funcom?

I like TSW, but it's not about zombies. Yes, the 1st zone is highly infested and some in the 2nd, but it's not the core opponent.

different styles of game.
I also think that TSW underestimated the amount of pvp players out there and went for more of a pve approach and ignored the pvp playerbase.
right now I am enjoying both games.
