In the State of the Game released for STO today, they give a pretty good rundown of what's on tap for Season 7, scheduled for release this month.  New Romulus, the personal advancement system, new content, etc.

The announcement can be found here:

Yet another update to which I reply with a resounding "meh".

IMO STO is (still) fine for about a month played casually and without spending a dime on C-Store junk. It is not a long term MMO to invest any real time in.

It is most important to note that with Season 7, in game currency costs (eg. Dilithium) are being raised to prevent you from saving them to buy C-Store points.  The goal is to get you to spend real money for points by making it impossible to do things in a reasonable time frame.

Game is still a shallow and hollow experience that lacks any meaningful "Trek" experience beyond the cosmetics.

Article for those interested in how the (IMO) now overly grindy Dilithium grind is about to get a whole lot more tedious and grindy ... http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=440691

Surprising , no. Bright side now they have a reason to play the Klingon side. It's an artifically increased  Pop, so the monkeys at Cryptic can report , that they've been successful increasing the population of the Klingon side. Cryptic never ceases to amaze me. They'll point to this and say see, we've increased the population , we need more money to expand the content.
