I don't know for sure.  It's getting hard to compare apples to oranges with new games vs old games, not to mention the warped expectations of players these days.

World of Warcraft had quite a bit of content out of the box, and continued getting new additions every few months in the form of dungeons and raids.  Even further back, you have games like EQ1 and DAoC which were bursting with content, and EQ1 particularly had tons of expansions.

The problem today is that in a world of publicized betas, WoWhead's and ElitistJerks, where new content is mastered before it's even released to the public, and where detailed guides and information are a google search away, there is no way for a game company to create enough content to satisfy people anymore.  We consume it too fast, and too efficiently.

The Secret World is a great example.  Try doing an investigation mission where you have to look stuff up in the browser, like a composer's name or something.  The difficulty is in trying to ignore the 90%+ search results linking to game guides.  It's annoying.

Even despite that, it's a more content-rich experience with a properly supported sub game because the dev's have a better understanding of how much financial resource they have to put towards new content.  You know how many subs you have, and you know how much income you're getting.  It's why even cash shop games offer sub options, because they are optimal for the developers compared to the feast or famine that comes with predicting cash shop purchases.

Look at LotRO as an example for that.  They've had content updates since going F2P, but they constantly have to revise things like release dates or drop/postpone features that were originally planned.  Shareholders are happy, but dev's have a hard time with project management when the income isn't predictable.

Good post i've seen in a LONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG time. BUMB. And yes i am agree with you. My server always at high and some time full. I'm trying lvling an alt so i can try out different story line and i have say the world is so god damn boring. We need something that can keep high lvl player come b to low lvl zone so it would not look so lifeless.   good post.

    BUMB BUMB BUMB.

And i love the idea about making a Big World event that will lead the player go throught ALL the maps. I love that kind of things :D

Or they could make a World Event base on the Personal Story? Like you know how we have to chose b/w the 3 orders and then from there we advance? We can start at Queensdale and then "travel" to other map ( i put travel in " " meaning that we actually travel, not by using way point, but like escorting NPC to other maps, and on the way while we travel we can have some mini other event), and then fight dragons and stuff :D. We can have one week with the "Vigil" order path, other week with the "order of whisperer path" .....

Nice suggestion, only problem is "what's the point?"  GW2's issue is the reward in endgame for going back to earlier zones isn't very rewarding if at all.  Just seems pointless.  This game has a huge lack of rewards.  It reminds me of this old game I played in the NES days called Hydlide.  It was a brutal RPG that was so damn hard it took myself and a few friends weeks to beat it, together as a team.  When we finally did, our reward was a line of text saying "Congratulations!  You have beaten the game!"

We were fairly miffed and even called the developer to complain.  Games without rewards are like people robbing me of precious time with inane conversations or pointless advertisements.

Reverse overflow would be good. Automatically send people to a host server until there are enough people to warrant an individual server zone. Some DEs do become impossible with not enough people.

The only one's I have been unable to solo are group events and few of the champion spawns.  However, many of the champion spawns are still soloable.  A decent challenge, but soloable none the less.

Just to give you an idea on my perspective I have 80 Rng/80 Thief, 25ish Ele/Guard/Mes, and a 12ish Warrior.

I was specifically talking about Champ mobs and final zone events. Try do the fire elemental, zone bosses or the Orr champs solo. You wont be having much success. Low level champs? Yeah no dramas for some classes. My mesmer has soloed quite a lot of them.

what's the point of playing single player games at all? just curious as i just beat dishonered but what was the point? why do you need to be rewarded at every turn and constantly work for something at every moment to just enjoy yourself? what reward are you looking for in a single player game?   what satisfaction do you get by knowing you are now the 100,000th person to complete this tier set of gear in any given MMO. I understand the want of working towards something but at the end of the day what's the whole point? Some prefer just playing the content put in front of you and enjoying a game and not having to worry about getting x piece of whatever to move on. For me in console RPGs i play for the story and enjoy the world the devs created.. I may work towards beating the hardest boss but in the end if i don't enjoy the combat or story I just won't stick around in those games. I'm just trying to understand why so many feel they "need" that reward at every turn to continue to play a game.

    Here are staples of GW1:

    Switchable skill panel

    Guild PvP

    Hub/Instance based gaming

    Skill over loot

    No Jumping

    AI aids

There were many that loved GW1 but many that hated it, the main reasons were:

    Hub/Instance based gaming

    Lack of loot

    No Jumping

    AI aids

But the problem is who do you listen to, to make 2 the ultimate Guild Wars game? They decided on:

Replacing most of Instance gaming with Open World DE's

Add jumping, then get cute and add jumping puzzles

Remove AI Aids, because it makes a mmo non-social

Things they changed that make you go WTF are:

    Where is Guild PVP?

The swappable skill panel, (To me the core staple of GW's)

One thing they stuck with that will always limit your total acceptance of a player-base, but will gain favor with a smaller group:

    Skill > Loot.

Not so much that exact line of thinking, but how it plays out. You have to think most mmo/arpg/gamersin general period, they want to constantly be evolving with better gear, better skills and a fresh look. From the start all the way through to the finish and beyond... Oh yes beyond the finish to! MMO End-Game is stuff legend is made of.

The Guild Wars legacy can only be so large when they stick with Skill over Loot. There are way too many people that will not stick around long-term without that. Not right, not wrong, just the way it is.

For me I'm ok either way, it wasn't a surprise the game doesn't revolve around gear, if you pay any type of attention, you know that. But that said, I rather have had gobs of loot like an ARPG. Why? Because it is more fun to me. That said, I'm also set in believing that PvE skills/loot don't have to carry over into Instance Based PvP. In that realm you can make a perfectly levelled PvP arena if you choose, see tons of FPS/Dota based games.

So I say make PvE crazy fun with all the loot and doo-dads. Make PvP equal with set templates that focus on skill.

To me this is simple to think, but then again we are all different.

Special Note: GWs 2 is no more social now without having AI Aids to form your group. So lol to those that thunk that. You are the one that decides how "social" you want your gaming to be. Just because there are a lot of people around, doesn't make it a "social game", see real-life and introverts, which I am one. I can live with billions and speak to few.

Cool enough avatar. I think he called it as honest as he could.

He'll be back though new avatar, new game ;)

edit - I also wanted to add that he had made a post to me, about how my posts used to have good arguments etc and now they are arguing for the sake of. This is something I had noticed at the end of my stint on the mmo-champion forums. By the end I had lost site of the key points on the direction of WoW that I disagreed with. I thank him for alerting me that I was heading in the same direction with my critiques of GW2.

A day later someone made the same type of post talking about him, and his defense of GW2 becoming less thoughtful and more dismissive. This was the last I saw of him. If this had anything to do with his decision, I commend him in knowing when to take a step back.

Overall good poster that I enjoyed talking with whether we agreed or not.

Not sure which thread it was, but one of the more recent ones he was in had a crap load of his posts "mod edited" to nothing.  I have no clue what he said in those, but I do know that lately he's been posting more and more random meme pics, and his comments haven't been all that constructive as a result.

For many, 'progression of your char' is a good reason and the only way to 'up your power' is via loot at level 80.

Some have different goals, like looking like a christmas tree or having a sword that looks like it was made out of candy canes.

That doesn't mean the issue of 'why can't we get more powerful at level 80 via loot' isn't a valid question by the players.

Hey guys, it's Creslin.  Elikal posted a comment on my YouTube account asking why I left, which made me check on these forums and I noticed that a bunch of other people were wondering as well.  So anyway...

There are basically two reasons why I decided to delete my account.

First and foremost...I didn't like how much time I spent on these forums.  Whenever I sat down to do something productive, it was all too tempting to hop on these forums "just to check" and then inevitably involve myself in some silly argument that would occupy me for like 2 hours lol.  This had really made me comtemplate just deleting my account to help stop me from coming back for a while...kind of like a symbolic ripping off a band-aid I guess.  If I continue to visit the forums too frequently, I will be deleting this one as well haha :).

Second, I didn't really like what most of the threads on these forums had become, and how I had become one of the main participants in what I didn't really like.  What I mean by this is that I used to come on these forums and actually post fairly thoughtful things that I found interesting.  And then I would have fun discussions with everyone about them.

But now...everything just seems to be one circular argument after another.  I can't tell you how many times I have argued that GW2 is social or that it's a good game, or whatever.  These arguments never go anywhere, and the sad thing is, that most of these arguments are based on simple misunderstandings...and I often even know this, but decide to argue anyway just to kill time.  For example, in the huge antisocial debate I had with grimal, I knew that he probably felt the game was antisocial because of his particular experience on playstyle, but I didn't really want to just ask him that and try to understand because that would have resulted in resolution and I wouldn't have had a fun argument to kill 2 hours with.

Eventually, I started to see a parallel between arguments on these forums and arguments in politics.  What I mean by this is that, much like politicians, it seems like I (and we in many cases) stopped caring about why we are arguing, and really only care about winning.  Many of us will go through a crazy amount of research just to prove the other person wrong, like digging through their post history, or spending an hour googling to find some obscure dev post made in the distant past.

And since I disdain politics with a passion, I started to hate how we argued on this site.  At one point, I just decided to poke fun at everyone's arguments with meme pictures, maybe to lighten up the mood or something.  But I wound up getting banned for posting a "beating a dead horse" picture in response to a guy who had basically made the exact same argument for like 3 pages.  This was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back, because it gave me the impression that the status quo was basically what was desired around here, even by the moderators.  So I decided that the only way out of it, was basically to just walk away.

Anyways...I did actually like some of the discussions we had here, so I don't want to give the impression that it was all negative for me.  I will still try to check in every now and then...but I'm going to try to spend a lot less time here.  Thanks for the memories all!

Yea on my server a simple shout on the map will usually draw a couple to help.  But again if you build your character right and if his/her gear is up to level its not out of the realm of impossibility for a ranged character to kill a champ through effective kiting.

Thanks for the memories all!

    my guess same thing

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall.
