Is this SSD any good?

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

They're first generation SandForce, Indilinx Barefoot, and Phison controllers, respectively.  The first was good in 2010, the second decent in 2009, and the third was garbage at launch.  I suspect that Crucial wrote their own firmware for the Phison controller, as it performs a lot better than other SSDs with the same controller.  It's still very much a budget option, though, and I suspect that Phison is selling the controller for next to nothing because no one wants it.

Why not get something with a much better reputation for the same price instead?
