After September 30th (the Lodestone says 29th, but it appears to be a mistake), account registration for FFXIV will be closed. To all players whose subscriptions will end AFTER September 30th, you will now be able to play for free until the servers shut down on November 11th. However, Character Progress will NOT be saved after November 1st. Meaning that all progression done throughout the month of October will be saved, but any progress between November 1st and November 11th will not be saved (thus not carried over when 2.0 launches). The official forum will also be open strictly to paying users (same rules as above basically).
