Playing WoW apperently means you can't have a social/mental disorder

BoldynBoldyn Posts: 265Member

Given the nature of the crime and the horrible outcome, I don't feel the need to go into detail regarding what case this is from. In short, a while ago a man commited an act of violence so grim it's hard to believe it actually happened.

There were 2 evaluations, one claiming he was indeed suffereing some sort of mental instability, the other claiming he didn't. One of the big reasons the court ruled in favor of him actually being sane, was because he was activly playing WoW at the time, where he had alot of contact with other people and therefor couldn't possibly be suffering from said mental/social instability.

I dunno...

Ps. This could have been any online game, not trying to paint a target on WoW, neither did the article.

if you can sit down and play a video game that requires thinking and problem solving then you are not insane or crazy . SO many crimes nowadays have ridiculous outcomes over insanity defenses and competance to stand trial. You can turn on the tv today and see it with the colorado shooter. People instead of going after him , have made excuse after excuse of mental illness instead of just assuming that people ARE evil enough in this world to kill because they want to do so , not because they are skitzo or in some bi polar mood. Stop giving people crutches to stand on when they commit horrible acts of violence. Soon their will be excuses for all the predators out there like jerry sandusky .

Would depend on the condition they are trying to use.  Being criminally not liable (ie. insane) is a lot harder than being clinically labled insane or having a disorder.  The court will almost always accept the slightest sign or a persons cognative/socialization/rationalization/or rational ability formation as a sign of a lack of a disorder with dealing with a person that has committed a crime.

Well seeing as alot of people on trial try to plead temp insanity, I am happy it wasn't ruled a such in this case. I guess it comes down to what is normal. No, what he did wasn't normal, but yeah I do believe some people are actually evil. To lighten the mood, "some people just wanna watch the world burn"

My thing is you cannot turn on the news at all without some lame duck pyshcologist spouting off nonsense about every crime out there has to have some disorder. When does personal responcability start for a person seriously? Im truely glad people are finally starting to rule over that insanity and mental disease crap and rule with common sense. I remember back in the day when pedo's were considered evil and punished for exactly being that , now you always see some stupid pysch on the stands saying they have this stupid made up disease or that one instead of just it being what they are evil f'ers who prey on the weak. Well my ramble anyways sorry :P

A person claiming to be blind is determined not to be blind because he was playing World of Warcraft.

    By your logic, Boldyn...

Playing WoW apparently means you can't have a vision problem.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Nowhere did I express my logic.

My post was more of a "huh what?" moment. Like the first time you read about someone killing someone over a game, or dying due to playing for eleventy hours.

And it caught my eye mostly considering what case it happened in...

Wow I hope if I ever commit a crime that they don't look into my actions in starquest. Kidnapping, piracy, rape, murder, torture, extortion, terrorism, treason...

Sounds to me more like the court wanted a way to remove an insanity defense, and used what it could find to do so.

plays WoW = socially functional?  I won't touch that one.

There was a very, freaking OBVIOUS reason I didn't mention what it was regarding, due to respect. I suggest you get some and next time let people find out for themselves.
