My visions of "AO Launch Mk II" are fulfilling it seems. If ever more people cancel their pre-orders, you can expect the game to be shut down soon. If the US publisher indeed sucks as much as this guy does, then the game is doomed to fail. If a game does not succeed in the US market, then I don't know where it will. Gamigo may be a respectable publisher in Germany and elsewhere, but they aren't wizards. If the game is flawed from the beginning due to flawed development, then not even Gamigo can make it a success.

I'm sorry to see this game suffer a similar fate as Wish did - both had to suffer from inner drama and it will be the downfall of Mourning eventually. I've been in this whole industry long enough to see when a game suffers from bad management.

Besides this, I'm sure we should make this more public elsewhere too. This is an unusual development for a game prior to release and people deserve to know what they're getting themselves into, if they buy Mourning.

We'll see how it goes, I suppose. I have a lot of respect for the dev team, and there are some interesting ideas in the game that should appeal to a lot of roleplayers and pvp'ers.

For those reasons, I wouldn't dismiss the game completely. There's still a chance that the US publisher gets their act together. And none of this has anything to do with the European/Canadian publisher (who, from what I've heard, is doing a good job, actually).

Life is like a grapefruit. It's sort of orangy-yellow and dimpled on the outside, wet and squidgy in the middle. It's got pips inside, too. Oh, and some people have half a one for breakfast

ya i can understand your respect for the devs. i dunno the game's just something i dont wanna end up wastin money on..i could put that money towards something a lot better.
if all ends well ill try it out and see hows its goin..but until then im not puttin money on it.

Well here is my take on the whole thing. The game will launch, quite probably before the end of the month. It will be either a good game or it won't. With a budget where they can survive with only a few thousand players the core fans (fanbois) can keep the game alive if it is good. It surely does not need the numbers that WoW or EQII does to stay afloat.

AO started off with the worst press and with the worst client/server softwareI have ever seen a game get and  still not only survived but turned into a pretty decent game over time. If Mourning has decent server/client software it can draw more numbers. No matter how much bad press the slambois want to give it, or vice versa if it truly sucks it will die no matter how much good press the fanbois give it the numbers will dwindle.

By the end of April we should all pretty much have a good clue on which it to be. So fans and slammers go ahead and lay the BS on now because the rubber should hit the road soon. Myself I am darn near tempted to drop the 30 bucks just for the heck of it. This post here impressed me much more than all the fan/slam post ever could

Sniff sniff...whats that I smell... honesty ....from a game developer... no way, or maybe it is. That alone should set a precedent in this industry.

I have been keeping up with the Mourning thread the last few days since this started, I can't take it anymore. Anything you tell those people and they get all excited and are THANKFUL again. I can't take it, arg!

Desperation for a game Mourning fans?! If this game ends up being a complete failure I am gonna stop logging in here for 2 months til all the whining settles, dang.

They think if they suck up a lot to the devs they will get into beta or granted special powers in game. image

The game has been in beta for over 2 years now and is nowhere near ready for release. Add to that the fact that the devs have no control over the jerkoff ruining THEIR community and all you end up with in the end is several years of wasted effort and broken promises. ::::05::

Lets say the game does come out how is this tiny dev team and asshole publisher going to treat people in game when they have issues come up? He treats people like shit now and they havent even bought the game yet can only imagine how they will be treated after he has their money.

Heck, I've already dropped money on this game to run MourningPlayers.com.  I'm honestly starting to think that its about time to dump the idea.

I started MP.com so that we could have an objective fansite that put out facts rather than Fanboi BS ... hence why I put up the videos as soon as Admini deleted them...  let the people at least see what the gameworld looks like.  Sabbie made it clear about the circumstances of which the video was captured.  FRAPS on a crappy machine ... take it with a grain of salt.

I'm starting to get truly annoyed over the delays and how the community is acting, but I've already made some investments of my own.  Now its a matter of cutting the losses and getting out early vs. sticking with it.  I'm very optimistic in life, but there comes a point when enough is enough.  I respect the dev team and to some extent, I still respect the publisher ... to some ... small ... extent, so hopefully it'll work out in the end.

My only hope is that I can use my fansite to ease some of the BS that comes down from the top.

I have to agree here. These fanboys show amazing blindness at the problems with this game, even with mourning mods and mourning player sites say they have issues with this game. The main reason I have seen for mourning players staying is "Its the only game outhere". Is a publisher like Dave and his censorship, mourning own mods doubt, poor poor graphical video, and a few years really (most beta players say its know where near release) worth it?

Wow this reminds me of Horizon´s management soooo much (as in a few people dont have any skills but have power/money).

So when game is released but not finished we will get "its publishers fault" or "its the devs that screwed up" depending on who you side with.

Also I liked the drama when they had to change to the "Mourning" name because of copyright to a similar name. (Anyone remmember what the name was btw?)

People sure are happy once you give them a central character to blame...  So many posts saying that the publisher guy is behind all the bannings and forum related mishaps...

Seems like everyone is all too willing to forget the actions of Tiamat and so forth.

I can't imagine the player favoritism once this game goes live, Will the guy run around spawning items for butt kissers?  Or how about ol' dave DESPAWNING items LOL He reminds me of the soup nazi from seinfeld (No soup for you!!!)

Since when do publishers control the boards?

A lot of smaller games have troubles with gms given people items and I suspect this one shall be no different.  I am a lot happier now that there seems to be a game and a crappy release is till a release.

  • ScarisScaris Member UncommonPosts: 5,332

Publishers do sometimes control the boards, SWG for example with SOE. But usally its one or the other, not both sitting there conflicting in front of everyone. As for the actions of Tiamat, I dunno, I haven't kept up with the forums enough to know who was really doing all of that. I just know what Spoon said at the moment, other then that I have little knowledge of past goings on.

If you go to the forums he bans many people and brags about it in its own little section.  He has punished people for posting in a thread anot not reporting the violation of ANOTHER player.

But perhaps the most famous example is where he posted the IP address of a poster in retaliation and threatened to do it to anyone else he felt like it to.

Pre orders generally are charged when they ship.  Nothing has shipped so it is doubtful that they've been charged.  I find your story to be highly suspect.

Well a lot of people have been banned and or canceled preordered... if a lot of people start complaining then I geuss what your saying could be true.  I am not going to jump to that conclusion just yet:)

    Hi,

I am Gireada Andrei PM at Mourning. So far no credit card has been charged and all the CC information is handled by a third party company.

What bugmen tells (meaning that if you get banned your preorder is canceled and the money for the preorder are took from your credit card) is false. In fact I will try to talk to MMORG staff to get the real name of this guy and sue him since this false claims bring harm to my game. From what I know during the last 2 weeks no one got banned on Mourning forums but I will look into this matter a little better.

No money have been took for the preorders and everybody will receive a notification on the email address they put when they filled the form that they will be charged 24 before this will be done.
