Yeah I know the title sounds like baiting. That is not my intention so please stick with me for another 15 seconds.
We have all seen the often incoherent, borderline rants, trying to explain how the GW2 cashshop is P2W (Pay to win). It sounds like a messy soup with ingredients such as prior F2P experiences, pet/mount sales in other games and the notion that WvWvW will matter, all mixed up in an old dented bowl.
None of the rants made any sort of sense to me... Background: I am going to play Guild Wars 2. I plan to enjoy the PvE part as the designers have designed the PvE world to be enjoyed. I do not plan to spend much time in the WvWvW part of the game (yeah I know a lot of people consider this a major feature, thats perfectly ok but I don't give a shit. Engaging PvP is on a level playingfield in my book.) Obviously my PvP focus will be structured.
With structured PvP in mind (the rest is, IMO, just PvE with a twist): Please explain how you see any P2W advantage in GW2?
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!

There is none, all characters get to choose from equall gear in structured PvP... its the most ballanced PvP setting ever, without any chance of people buying big stuff with real money

There is absolutely no way to do it in structured pvp.
But I have never heard anyone complain about that, it's been about the WvW where the complaints have been.

Enough said!........no advantage, period.....no P2W, period.
There is no way to P2W in sPVP....
Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums
People have to remember WvW is what people are most excited about with GW2.
And you can sort of P2W with WvW.
So yeah, biggest incentive also has the biggest flaw.
I don't think even the most ignorant troglodyte has accused sPvP as being P2W. It's everything else in the game that they point to, including the dye packs and costumes.
Nope you can't, appreciate the effort though.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
A) Most people are looking forward to PvE and DE
even in WvWvW there is no way to buy victory, periode.

How is WVW P2W?Can you even? I've heard that it's possible, but since i haven't look at the CS at all, i have no idea. Don't know, sounds very trollish (no offense)
It has to do with purchasing blueprints I think. Those cost gold. You buy gems, sell gems for gold, use gold for blueprints. However, you still need supply to build the siege engines so even if you consider the above as pay to win it is a very big stretch.
In game Supply itself negates that.
I can go into further detail but I stressed it so much in the past why someone can't P2W in WvWvW.

Yeah, yeah, i got it. I was getting confused because of something else. It's not P2W because you still need resources. I was just mixed up because i never got how the gems and gold and stuff work. I never cared because i don't plan to use the cash shop anyway. But never mind, all good.
Well let me explain how morons think this is pay to win.
Cash>Gems>Gold>influence>upgrades in world vs world.
So they are saying that you can buy upgrades in world vs world for real money. The upgrades there are in WvW is first off very small and only active around your guilds keep/tower and it takes hardly no effort to get it. So they are saying that you can pay with money for something that takes like an hour for a guild to get. To make this even work you have to have a pretty good guild to take over a keep in world vs world ( you even get enough influence to buy the bloody upgrade by taking the keep).
Sorry - I disagree. WvWvW is - IMO - the AB's (alliance battles) of GW in GW2 format: All the rage for a month or 2. After that: Just a fun pasttime while assembling the team for the next PvP (structured) match or guild activities in PvE.
I guess the "people" you speak about are mostly regulars here? They are definately not the majority of future GW2 players.
To other replies: Thanks, you all seem to support my own view of what sPvP in GW2 will be: Sure I will get beaten up repeatedly, but for all the right reasons and not because of ingame "/age or /played" time or cash shop skills.
If I could, I guess I should change the thread title to: "Don't waste more bandwidth on outlandish PvE P2W speculations" :-)

The only way to "Pay2Win" in SPvP would be to bribe the other team with money and pay them through PayPal prior to the match.
Then they'd just take your money, then kick your butt and run away going nahnahnahnah.
True ... I guess you would have to do 25% up front and 75% after or something :P
And ... I am obviously joking about the bribing stuff
I will give you $2 US to stay in your base?
Sounds like pay to win to me.
Honestly though there is no pay to win in this game, and I can't wait to get back in
You'd have to buy the company.
Didn't see that option in the cash shop, so I guess you'd have to call customer support.
Like everyone else, P2W doesn't exhist in sPVP and is only hypothetical in WvWvW.
You could ask the same thing for WvW. How would you P2W?
There was a jumping puzzle that I could do 3x per match in WvW. I think it resets every match, but I'd need to check if I can do it once every day once the game goes live. The WvW map kept resetting every day to test the match making. Anyways, that jumping puzzle gave me some money and a few free siege weapons for each large chest looted. Another thing I noticed was that siege weapon prices stay the same, but the amount of money obtained went up as I leveled. Because of these things I was carrying a golem, catapult, ram, and two ballista when the last beta we had ended. I didn't use up the siege weapons because the supplies to make one were usually consumed up when another player placed one down on offense. I don't think there will be a lack of siege weapons once the game goes live.
For guild influence, something is telling me that the buffs given to forts that it can buy won't be used that often. Sometimes a fort can get buried behind other forts, which make it less likely for the enemy to attack. And even if your guild fort wasn't buried under other forts you would still have siege weapons to consider. Siege weapons are the main line of defense on defense, but they don't seem to accept any buffs except for maybe a support warrior's AoE damage aura. My guess is that the fort buffs will be no different. And most of the buffs don't seem like they would even help siege weapons that defenders have built even if they buffed the siege weapons. Don't get me wrong, those influence buffs look like they could be useful, but I think that their place in WvW is a lower priority compared to some of the other things. If I had to choose between keep upgrades and influence buffs, I would probably choose keep upgrades.
Keep upgrades are a team effort. Anyone can buy keep upgrades. Some cost a lot of money, but the money cost will seem lower as a person levels much like the siege weapons. Even if somebody bought a bunch of gems and sold them all for gold, an entire team could pitch in and upgrade a keep to do just as well as that person. There was a time in beta where my guild leader asked for donations and we all pitched in some silver for them. Imagine how much silver people will be donating when everybody is high level. People might toss around gold coins, which could buy just about any upgrade for any keep.
But, you can buy WvW resources with real money? Done by buying enough gems with real money, changing them to gold to get these things, but still that can be considered as a small form of P2W.
I think it was a good effort
You can buy the blue prints with gold and so inderectly with gems and real money.
Now, the problem is a blue print does nothing.
Currently playing: GW2
Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders
But don't forget you still need supply to make your weapons....you can't buy supply, so this helps make your "P2W" even less so.
Please explain how ANY of this applies to sPvP (structured PvP)?
Hint: Thread title = Your effort, good or bad, was simply a waste!

I plan on using the p2w feature in sPvP by paying hard cold cash to the 4 best folks I can find to become my teammates ...WE WIN I PAY
