Seeking alternative to Movie Maker

Hello, I am seeking a freeware alternative to Windows Movie Maker, since the damn program always crashes on me. A few things:
- I want to make a movie from JPG-slides (I draw, and want to present them as video)
- output MUST be HD
- I still use XP
