Made me wish it was guildwars2 beta. The more I see/play other MMOs, the more I want to expereince GuildWars2. Ive seen most all the vids from press releases, and Ive got to say the game looks amazing to me. Tera is a very beautiful game with its graphics and such, but the gameplay is very bland. Sure its aim-based. But... so is GuildWars2 to a degree. Anyway, I may by Tera if I get bored with GuildWars2, but I cant wait for GuildWars2 to come out.

that was me last beta, got my invite for this weekend and never even applied it to my account >.<
ONe of the things it did for me was bring up something else i hate about this generation of mmos.
I need to kill 4 Trees. I kill 4 trees, no those weren't veteran trees, they were elite veteran trees so my quest number doesnt budge.
Annoyance aside teras combat was fun, but needs to be transported to a less stale genre.
this is actually not a problem in this particular game,
because they put up yellow exclamation markers over the heads of any mob that you are on a quest to kill. so if you don't see the yellow !, you know its not going to give any quest hits.

the people I game with are so tired of the same style of MMO that we didn't join in the Tera beta even though we all have beta keys. We tested Swotor during beta and walked away quickly.
Knowing what GW2 is bringing all of us feel its worth not ruining months of our lives with more of the things we hate in current MMO's...
Most of us have spent months upon months of total game play hours. (combining game play hours into total months of continued game play.)
Even though GW2 is giving the same thing but masking it, it doesn't matter. It is enough of a change to make it feel fresh and new so much so that nothing feels worth our time atm.

I played TERA a few beta tests ago. I liked the graphics, and the combat was fine but the quests were an absolute bore.
Quest 1: kill 5 tree looking things.
Quest 2: kill the same tree looking things and collect 3 items from them.
Quest 3: kill 4 deer looking things.
Quest 4: kill 5 elder tree looking things.
Quest 5: kill 5 elder deer looking things.
By level 20, you probably killed a few thousand of those tree and deer looking things.
The quest rewards and items drops made no sense either. At level 1, you get a quest reward that requires you to be level 3 in order to equip it. Then a mob drops an item with the same exact stats that doesn't have a level requirement. Makes no sense! Then that whole mischief engine and those lucky egg things and the cheesy /cheer animation everytime you gather something...
F2P in 6 months to a year.
That's so true by level 10 I deleted the game when they send me to kill another fucking tree.... ah all races start on the same island so doesnt matter what race you play you will have to kill the same trees/deer.
Only I have to say that I played the past beta and I get an invitation for the next but I'm not going to use the next invitation because I'm too disapointed with the quest system. I even prefer quest on WoW or SWTOR....
as are virtually ALL MMOs coming out lately. congratulations on recognizing the trend towards f2p gaming.

Lets not turn this into a bash Tera thread.
I'll just say that I'm looking forward to the new dynamic event/questing system that GW2 has. I am also tired of the stale quests that are in most mmos today.
Quests is just 1, albeit a major, but still just 1 part of a game. Sure Tera didn't hit a homerun with their quests. But I think they've done rather well in all the other areas. Graphics and Combat are top-notch. I can honestly say Tera is the only game that i legitamately had FUN fighting on my character that i can really remember. In WoW, i got my high off topping the dps charts in raids, but i didn't really have 'fun' persay, i was just excited.
Tera on the other hand, playing as a warrior was fun as hell. Seriously. That counts for alot. Sure they have the same quest design thats been copied and pasted a million times, but so what? That's just a sacrifice you gotta deal with to enjoy all the other aspects of the game.
Also the Quest rewards thing. Tera is in beta, you know that right? I'm sure the quest gear will probably be lvled properly or the exp given from mobs will be raised etcetc.

+1 to all of this. I went into the beta this weekend seriously expecting to be unimpressed. And I have to say, the game is pretty damn fun. Yeah, the quests do suck, and that MAY turn a lot of players off. But the actual gameplay is really good, the world is massive, seamless, and absolutely beautiful, and the combat is all it was hyped up to be, once you get used to it.
I decided not to mess with most of the quests after about the first 14 levels or so. I just did the main storyline quests and just explored around attacking random mobs. And to be honest, it didn't feel like grinding. It's a very good game, and the world environment and combat make up for the dull quests. This is a game where you can truly go out and explore, beat the shit out of mobs, and have a blast.
the graphics are great but that doesnt make an MMO.
warrior is the most fun class in the game so obviously its fun. play the others and it is different.
combat is ok, but it is tedious
The starting experience is getting completely redone.
this isn't your type of game if all you can say was combat was okay, but tedious. the combat wasn't tedious at all. And yes, some classes were a bit lackluster, like the sorcerer.....a flying disc...REALLY? anyway, warrior isn't the only fun class, slayer is pretty fun as well, archer feels kinda cool too, just like a real archer actually. but it really did feel like the magic classes got the short end of the stick in Tera cause the melee's were all amazing.
and i'll return your words back at you, Quests doesn't make an MMO. so really, what else do you have to say?

So.. TERA's quests suck and we know that, Btw from all the replys i can tell that not one of you ever played the game pass the Starter Island, suitable for GW2 fans, Bash a game cus the Quests are not "epic" at level 1, Hey do you remember SWTOR? The quests are best ever made and look at what happend? Maybe next time you bash a game Tell us something we dont know.
Every Tera Fan knows that the Quests will be remade and that its not the Selling point of the Game like it is for GW2. Go try some Clan wars/PVP, doungens and then comeback [mod edit]
So wait, you start by saying 'quests suck and we know that', and then go into saying 'how dare you base a game off the lvl 1 quests'. Which is it? Do all the quests suck or just the lvl 1 quests suck in your opinion?
Me, personally, I've played the game up through lvl 25, and I can say that every last one of the quest was uninspired and bland. The combat is fun, but I can't really say the same for anything else in the game. Not even the PvP. The only thing else besides the combat that was impressive was the graphics, that's it. Everything else was pretty standard, and unless you like gankgfest pvp games (no penalty for PKing, and no benefit for killing PKs), then the game's PvP isn't even all that good. Sure, the dueling can be fun, but it so far usually devolves into either: one person gets 1-2 shotted due to lvl differences, or more people show up to imbalance the fight.
- I've played TERA well passed the starter zone. I've played the quests, i've played the PvP, I've played the dungeons. What was enjoyable? The combat & the dungeon bosses. That's about it. The game is fun in those regards, but I can't really justify the box price & a sub for this one. There's just not enough there.
Huh -all the quests are going to be remade by May 1, I doubt it, they may get rid of some and reshape others but they are not going to have enough time to redo all of them. Do I remember SWTOR yes I do since I never stopped playing it and it is the oppisite of Tera in the quest department and that is what creates immersion which is kind of missing from Tera, which I dont think is a bad game but should prob be a f2p game
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
I played the game to about level 19. So I did leave the tutorial island. The combat is TERA's only redeeming factor. The crafting, the questing suck. All of the quests are kill x quests. What makes it worse is that you're basically killing the same handful of mobs, with different names, up to pretty much level 20.
Clan wars? really? 10vs10? Don't make me laugh, that's not meaningful PvP that a minigame. And don't get me started on open world PvP where if you're 2 level higher than another player, it's not even a contest, just an easy faceroll for you. PvP LMAO!
I'd agree fully about the casters. Though, not the archer. Archer felt very much like the typical arrow-spammer from most MMOs. Personally I prefer the games (like FFXI, Vanguard, WAR, or DAoC) in which the archer fires less rapidly, but has to choose his shots carefully. But hey, that's just me.
More to the point. I'd also agree about the Warrior & Slayer both being fun classes. Hell, the lancer was a ton of fun as well, even if they didn't hit very hard. However, I did feel like the combat only really shined through those classes, and didn't really adapt well to any of the others. It really felt like only a couple classes were designed to take full advantage of the combat system (dodging, jumping, & aiming) while the rest felt like they were made to fit into the combat system, rather than designed for it.
Also, what to you makes an MMO? Is it only combat? If so, then yes TERA is an amazing game, if not, then there's really a lot to be improved on. Furthermore, if combat is all that matters in an MMO, then what seperates an MMO from any other type of combat-oriented game?
More power to ya I guess... But I find this whole opinion weird at the same time. Been hearing it increasingly more often too from people I used to game with all the time. I don't get how people who used to put 8 hours in gaming some days suddenly are bored of entire Genres now and just wanting something "new".
There's nothing new. ...period... Before this stuff, people played Muds. Before that they played card games. ...Before that they read books or played chess... The only thing that's ever totally "new" is the Tech itself. Changing the tech doesn't suddenly make things new. It's all about your imagination. And I'm not bored of this stuff yet. Either you're inspired to Role Play, or you're just a fucking stick in the mud who's got nothing left to do but complain and bring everyone else down too. ...Some people call that "Growing Up" while doctors seem to think a Prozac subscription is the real solution. Whatever it is, it's NOT always the genre that's really the problem. It's the people; the players who forget why they were inspired in the first place because they got too focused on the details and the powercreep and whatever else made them turn a hobby into serious-fucking-business.
They should change it, first impressions are important and my first impression of Tera isn't so good.
Hmm.. well I've already explained my TERA story and experience - I didn't like it even though I kind of expected to, but I also don't see how this thread is going to remain unlocked after a while.
Who says? lol They really weren't.
It was a problem because, like many of these games, you get all your quests from one area. So you got 5 quests ot kill 5 types of trees, but their not types, just degrees of the particular tree.
This makes no sense from a story point of view. I need honey sap right. Well i would presume that a freaking elite tree gives honey sap just as well as a veteran tree, considering its tougher. Why does that not count.
That's throughout the game. But its a dinosour of this generations of games.
