Accusing members of your fanbase of being whiners is another sign that you lack professionalism.

Here's my gift to you: a ban. Please consider it a way which express my invitation to follow whatever other MMO you want to.

The reason?

because you simply made me a liar, and yet failed to point to even a single lie I ever told on these boards, or whatever other place regarding Mourning!

that's the same reason because of which I was in position to demand you a proof for that accusation: you did that in here, on our boards, which is our home. I won't stay and let you insult me by saying that and do nothing about it.

anyone else which feels like him, and can point to a single lie I ever told in here, is welcome to show it to our entire community, and you'll have my resignation from my job in the next day.

Thank you!

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

Hmmm. Not to sound like an asshole or anything - But I kind've like the style of the mourning developers. Basically their will to ban swearing l33t kiddehz and fanbois is bigger then their will to make money, I applaud them for that.

However, he did went quite overboard with this one. If any of the mourning developers are reading this: Your game seems promising, I like your style, but you should really consider getting a Community Rep.

    Thanks.

You can try to spin this around on the customers but the fact remains Mourning has serious PR issues.

The people that say "stfu the game will rule all hail tiamat!" are basically saying to the news paper company "STFU! Just because its a scam doesnt mean you have to tell everyone!"

I would have to agree...not very professional.

Devs have to have thick skin, if they think it's bad now, wait until (if) they release the game, it only gets worse.  If you can't handle your public relations any better then that, then maybe they shouldn't be in the game business, especially the MMOG side of it.

I realise some folks thinks it's a breath of fresh air, but there will come a time when those same folks that they are banning or bad mouthing will be paying the bills.  There is a line, and he crossed it.

I don't care if Tiamat deserved to do what he did to that person, the fact is, like the other people above me said, that is not the way you have to act. I look for a sense of professionalism in people developing a game, and that's not the style I am looking for. If he doesn't like some of the people who are posting (and they might be idiot people, fine), that's ok, but act professional if you are going to do something to said person. You really need to keep the level of professionalism up, so that people will have confidence in your company and game, the way you represent yourself to the community goes a long way, which is why developers tend not to be active in official forums, except with posting updates or bugs or something like that, because they don't want to get involved in something that will tarnish their reputation, a big no no for a company.

You would think a guy facing possible legal action for what he did on the Mourning boards would learn when to stop. Hello Grunch, meet Mr. Brick Wall

  • deidesdeides Member Posts: 197

I doubt that the legal action thing is more than an empty threat.

Mourning devs also tried to sue somethingawful about a review they had of the game, and everyone here knows how that went... right? If not, you should read it (in the archive section). Their supposed lawyer firm was nothing more than a website "under construction".

Seems that if the mourning devs would have their way they'd sue anyone who says anything negative about mourning or the way they run things (that would include me i guess, heh). I think they act in a very unprofessional way, and if they sue me for saying that ... theyd just prove my point.

    Two extremes I see here

Mourning's total bluntness and lack of professionalism

and SOE's total professionalism to the point of lacking any emotion on any matter whatsoever

    Which do you prefer? lol

I don't understand why the big fuss is being made. Just liberally apply the ban stick as needed, and use it on the IP address as well. Those few who can figure out how to change their IP range can be dealt with other ways.

Most of their problems seem to be stemming from getting into what amounts to verbal arguements with their customer base. You never argue with your customers! You might hire a 250lb ex-linebacker to quietly "escort" them outside your establishment, mind. ;) But you never raise your voice to match theirs. When you start yelling too, it makes you look as bad as they are.

    LOL! image SOE's professionalism?

I guess you didn't play EQdead back when they had forums moderated by Abashi aka Gorden Wrinn(sp?).

Players expressed constructive criticism because SOE refused to listen and started to ruin a great game designed by Brad Mcquaid(sp?) and Verant so SOE's professional answer was to shut the forums down.

The maturity of the lead dev should not deter any player from the game if they find it cool.

Devs are humans, and I could bet that many devs are alcoholics, drugs junkies, waging money and losing way to much, religious fanaticals, this in many games, including all the MMORPGs.

    Devs are humans.

If you piss Tiamat, I suggest you dont use your credit card(not for security, but for auto-ban issues) and openly the same link, even if he realize it is you later, if you are quiet and not seeking conflict, you should be fine.

Despite all my advices, I know myself enought, I have a similar personnality(less bad then Tiamat hopefully), so I would not bow down or accept this, but again, it is because of my awfull personnal flaws, I certainly hope most peoples will play or not Mourning regardless of a dev personnal flaws.

If Mourning sound like a great game but you think Tiamat is a jerk, all the more to enjoy, HE work, YOU play!

Tiamat personality is worser then mine, and most peoples here know direct frontal confrontation lead to no success with me, I can tell you it will be the same there with that guy hehe.

Tiamat would prolly rather pay $10 for a service and WIN a point, then pay $2 and lose a point.  It is a nasty ego thing!

I praise SoE wisdom in this case.  They inherit from the past of Verant, for the best, and sometimes, for the worst, but usually the best.  SoE need to please customers, and unprepared SoE bashing on an official forum was suicide, so they shut it down and bow and accept the blame unofficially.

I never recall any SoE employe working an unprofessional ways, and trust me, I sam them enought for them to disagree with me forever.

SoE is a chaotic professionnal, they dont do costy fights, they retreat, which is a wise call.  The next thing you know, is they throw an expension with this or that feature, which is more or less an answer to the previous case.

SoE may lack on many issues, but saying they lack professionalism is like saying a fish dont know how to swim.

    Devs are humans.

But a dev that lacks professionalism shouldn't even be a dev.

And how devs act also impact your gameplay and communication in-game.

Bad dev -> Players hating dev -> Players hating game -> Shitty game.

If you want to play a game where the dev constantly thinks he is god, and doesn't give warnings, and just bans even if a person just barely breaks a rule, then go ahead, more power to you. But personally, I would avoid a game like that.

I disagree (eh my personality flaw hehe).

The worst personality could create the best game.

However he should hire NCPann to handle talking with players and formulating his sentences!  Or Cindy!  image  Still, I dont like Mourning, but if it was the best game ever, the lead dev could be the worst jerk ever or a nice little angel, wont change the MMORPG quality.  I am sure they would enjoy reading the dev purely like: ''Hey, you freaking trash who like my dumb grind'' which once translated sound like ''Dear estimed players who show your support to our incredible game''...

It would be better for Mourning to have someone else handle talking and community or whatever, but see, new MMORPGs are short on budget and they do what they can, if you want Mourning to be good, you should just bow out and let him ''win'' this point, you dont want him to focus on this rather then the game, or thinking about this rather then the game.

Somehow, for PvP to succeed, I strongly do believe that the devs must somehow be a jerk in a way or another, this is the only way to understand PvP well enought to make it interesting for anyone you want to be the target audience.  The FBI hire some of the best criminals.

thats right, you have the choice, anofalyse.  You can play a game even if the devs are bad and have a shitty way of doing their PR work.

On the other hand, being a dev is being in charge of a commercial enterprise, and my small opinion of business ethic is that you should be polite and have a professional attitude towards your clients.  What if you had a baker that cooked awsome bread, but kicked you out of his store if you stepped on black tiles inside his store?  Or threaten you with a lawsuit if you make a negative comment on the products he sells?

You can choose to play the game, but paying to play mourning would be (in my opinion) only encouraging tiamat to think he is right in what hes doing.  He might be right, but it still needs to be handled tactfully.
