People want this game because it has features, graphics, and/or takes place in a setting that appels to them. There is not a lack of information on the game, infact there is a wealth of information. And what do you mean by slated so close to release? As far as I know a release date has not been set. I think cash shops are okay, provided they don't give any competitive advantages (i.e. more powerful weapons, armor, spells). Having an NDA does not mean no confidence in your product. NDAs are put in place to enable more control over the company's and their product's precieved public image. It can act as a net to safeguard against negative publicity they might recieve on things they may have overlooked. This is a very important tool used by lots of companies in many other industries as well.

Actually, NDA is an acronym for Non-Disclosure Agreement.  It is quite common when access is granted to intellectual property of value.  Game companies frequently use NDAs when granting beta access to people.  These contracts can be used for any number of reasons, but I believe they are used with beta access, because the game is not in the state it will be for launch.  Anything players were to say about the game at that time might not be relevant, because the game will be developed further as time progresses.  Again, this is a common practice.

How do people actually want this game?

I cannot speak for others.  I have spent time reading the blogs and website information on the official site, as well as video footage from PAX.  I really like what I've read and heard so far.  That's why I want it.

I don't believe SWTOR "bombed", as they seem to have many subscribers.  It didn't live up to my expectations, but neither have some other games which are highly successful after years of activity.

Not a fanboy of any current games =/ sorry haters.

It's okay.  You don't have to like any existing games.  This is a website for people interested in MMORPGs,  even if you don't like them.

My favorite cute little troll bait of the week: NDA means the company has something to hide.  It's frigging adorable.

    To stay on topic...

Yes OP, WoW is a LoL...since they currently have at least half of all MMO subscriptions in the world...and those darn panda's are so cute, they will probably lose subs over it...

    Point ?

im kinda curious about when beta test turned into try before you buy... im guessing the same time NDA started meaning no confidence... there are many reasons for an NDA and im sure lack of confidence is one of them.. point is though, arenanet may actually use time during betas / inbetween testing weekends to tweak, work on and improve there game.. so the build some people play this weekend may not be the build the next group plays next test... why have players talking about things they experienced in game if anet fixes them based off of customer feedback... just because some games didnt use beta testing how they were meant to *cough swtor cough* to fix bugs and make improvemens, doesnt mean all gaming companies are that rediculous.. and even though it shouldnt be up i came across a comment from someone who is apparently in beta no links or other informating given.. who said that arenanet has restarted at least twice today for pantches... so you cant really judge based off them releasing testing under an NDA.. thats rediculous as i said

And they've been doing a great job of hiding, what with that metric ass-ton of coverage from the last press beta, plus all the footage and interviews over the last couple of years.  Indeed, they've been like a thief in the night.  A true ninja among developers.

Bans, =  Ryhmes with Vans.  Also rhymes with cans, and fans.

Lack of information on a game slated for release so close =  Yes if you dont pay ANY attention to all the plethora of information released then yes, you'd have a lack of information.  Kind of like when you never had any schooling you are likely unfamiliar with a thing called math.

Inc flamers = Or more popularly known as Flamers Inc, who as we all know sell some of the finest flame throwers in the world.  Use them to light cigarrets, roast marshmellows, or use as a lawn care alternative!  The possibilites are endless!

I already know what to expect from this game, since there's been so much footage and info over the years.  There will be some features that disappoint me, and some that i will like.  People such as the OP only disappoint themselves.

All MMOs in the past that played their NDA cards close to their chest has turned out they were hiding a poorly fleshed out product for live launch day.

So you expected their first beta to be an open one with full disclosure.  Thats realistic.  Good job.  *golf clap*

Sounds to me like someone is butt hurt from having their beta key snatched away from them after bragging on their facebook.

  • DJJazzyDJJazzy Member UncommonPosts: 2,053

Perhaps these folk got an invite, broke the NDA, and got their invites revoked. It's the only possible explanation I can think of for this behavior. What next? People will complain that you have to install the game before playing?

Edit: Heh, Jake beat me to the punch. Just what I was thinking.

NDA are good for a game in my option atleast till the bugges are fixed. Quite often you will find a bug somone will post it and some people will not want to buy the game  because of this one bug that has been fixed.

NDA means no confidence in the maturitty and the brainmass of the community.

Which in my opinion is a grave danger to any game, so the NDA is a real good tool to protect the things you're still testing inside the beta from being misunderstood by the community and being used as food for the trolls.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
