Well, some people can't deal with matured themed games, no matter how old they are.

I guess, some people play games because it is enjoyable. A place to relax and escape everyday stresses. An opportunity to experience another form of artistic media. Not to have some fake cyber erotic scene with poorly rendered character models.

Both myself and my husband agree this intro was unneccissary and tacky. He found it more amusing, I more embarrasing but whatever, a matter of opinion really.

Shooting the assault rifle point blank while being hacked with a scythe looked really silly.

And not running away just sitting there getting sliced with your blood pouring every time you get hit...

Killed any kind of immersion for me.

In more cartoony styles you can have a hunter shooting a bow at point blank but doesn't look AS silly because of the context.

They should do what LOTRO did with hunter where if a mobs comes point blank you get your dual melee weapons out and have different melee attacks to use.

So they should make assault rifles work on min 10m range and a way to quickly switch to a secondary weapon that is melee.

You may dislike the scene, but that doesn't mean it's unnecessary or tacky. Ingame it fulfills a function, they just chose not to shy away because of some prudency or such. Each secret society in their intro has a different means to move you to the Tokyo underground scene where you learn about the Filth and its thread to the world: As a Templar initiate, a madman makes your mind travel to that scenario, with the Illuminati you're strapped on a table and drugged in order for your mind to travel there, and with the Dragon you reach the required level of enlightenment via sex or tantric energy to get you transported to that scene.

You might disagree with how they present it, but ingame it fulfills a function, it fits in the setting and the differences between each secret society.

Ohhh for the love of gaming, please stop the constant bashing of Age of Conan..and FunCom

We get it already, and we know that "the launch went poor" ..That doesnt change the fact that it's one of the better MMO's out there right now...This isn't even arguable or a matter of taste, it's just the way it is....It's a quality product right now,  and it suffers from this start..But it's undeniable one of the better AAA products in the MMO genre right now..We have a few games at the top and yes AoC is one of them..

Funcom is an innovative company that doesn't get scared to try new things, unfortunatly they are also clumbsy with their marketing and such, and really tough break that they had to release Age of Conan in the state they had at launch-.. Even thou I thought it was ok , the masses obviously thought othervise..

Sure , they may screw up TSW aswell, not likely this time, but they may, or they may just fail because there is so many idiots beating the dead horse and continuing to do so even thou Age of Conan is mostly fixed right now..

If you continue to beat this dead horse , we may end up without innovative game developers at all, or do you really want to play World of Warcraft clones for the rest of this decade..

And about TSW, hopefully they get it together this time, the concept sounds GREAT, but as others have noticed there is some rather stale animations and such..Well see..Looking forward to this and something diffrent :)

You have to realise that both AoC and TSW are games meant for mature audience. AoC tackled slavery, prostitution, human trafficing, the occult and all those things that are expected to be seen in the era of Conan. TSW era is no happy happy land either and I bet it will be presented that way.

I don't know, maybe Templars will be a better choice for some people, since this faction revolves around faith (not sure if it revolves around religion as well). Illuminati on the other hand will be all about money and power.

In any case, some people find relaxing blowing people's heads off with high powered rifles. Others enjoy a good romance or a sexy spin off. As long as we all understand that we play games that are made for mature audience and we respect each others varrying taste, all is good.

I'm glad TSW isn't E for everyone. The game has a lot of things that are not what they seem. It's a very intelligently crafted world that shows you a lot but most of it is not real. Looking at the presentation a simple minded person might see a badly rendered sex scene. For a member of the templars, dragon or illuminati there's a meaning behind the actions, words and settings.

TSW is a dark mysterious place that put your senses and abilities to the limit. It's not trying to be elves and fairies in peaceful fantasy setting. It's depressing, tangled, dangerous world in which you must do your part to uncover the truth behind the realm while working in one of the three factions.. or perhaps between them?

This is why the game will never be mainstream. I just hope it catches a solid 500k-1mil playerbase that it deserves. TSW doesn't hold your hand, TSW rips it off.

Weird, where did all the people go who like a mantra told me for years, gameplay matters not graphics?

They really need to fix combat animations. The world and the monster models look amazing, but the combat is a joke. Spellcasting in particular is just terrible. Drunken clapping magic powerrrrrssss!

LoL the spellcasting. Agreed. It's like a move from baby yoga.

The gameplay is ok, nothing groundbreaking. I believe the way they handle classes and skills and the setting is what should make this game interesting. Unfortunately a guided demo of a specific area will not showcase any of this. You need to do a beta a let the players play for days and take hours of footage and then you can see if there is potential in the game. I believe that so close to release, this game has given me NO incentive to shell out any money for it.

I also don't think forced grouping and "everyone can play any role" will work......The reason why many players don't like being tanks or healers is because that is who gets blamed if anything goes wrong......Unless you can play with a group of friends the majority aren't going to like this system......With just 2 months left until release TSW just has too many question marks for my tastes......I'd like to try to get into open beta and get a better look, but if that doesn't happen there is no way I'm dropping any money on this until I get alot more info.

For the love of god and what not WHY?

Why do i see a character running around with guns but the way to use it is by clicking on the mob and then pressing hotkeys.

seriously im so tired of these hotbar auto aim games.. i want to aim my own gun aim my own sword and ofcourse there should be skills but they should all be aimed.

It looks very closed and confined, like AoC. The combat doesn't look to be anything new either. It looks like they merely took AoCs engine and changed the skin, skills and removed the nifty parts (directional shields and combos).

I'd say I was disappointed, but I had no expectations to begin with.

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

The animations on the strafe running look so unpolished, it's disappointing... Ugh.. I love Funcom's ability to make unique combat, but all of their little issues really take away from the good content.. I just wish they would do better. :(

Hmm I guess we know which faction will have the most teenage boys in it...or at least most males with the mental age of a teenager.

Again, this is Funcom.. a company that couldn´t go through a 5 minute interview about AOC without mentioning that there would be nipples.

That is their marketing..  Just like AOC, gameplay will suck, but hey.. you will get to be part of this lesbian hotel scene every time you create a female.

With the lack of actual gameplay footage, they could have shown a lot more than just this stupid crap for 12 year old boys.

Not trying to knock on you about your opinion of the footage, perhaps it just left you with a feeling of wanting to actually know more about The Secret World. I think it what they were mainly going for in the video presentation. Just trying to give people a feel for how the game actually functions and what the main points of the game that are meant to draw you in.

We've seen a short clip on the introduction of the Illuminati as well, so this gave me some more of the same in that department. Although I too am looking out for more in depth footage as far as mechanics and some encounters. I don't like getting too much info on these though because it might take a way a little from the actual experience when you play through it in game.

I don't think this game is going to appeal to the average 12 year old and for most mature players that footage wasn't the raciest thing we've seen in our lives. It's good to see a transition into more adult content in games, something I've been wanting for a long time.

Let´s not kid ourselves, that is the same  ´adult´ BS that funcom was saying about AOC.  ´We are sorry our game offends you, but we are showing nipples because we want to have a more mature game.´

It is not about being racey... it is not about maturity..  it is about the marketing they are doing AGAIN...  They are not showing content, they are not showing systems... they are showing stuff that makes 12 year old boys giggle in a locker room.

Wrong. It sounds to me like you have a beef with Funcom, probably because of AoC. But even if that isn't the case, the TSW marketing is completely different from how it was with AoC, the theme and setting isn't anything for 12 yr old incl the Dragon intro - which becomes clear when someone uses his/her 18+ yr old brain and realises what the scenario is really about - and they've been forthcoming enough about showing content and systems, for anyone who isn't stuck in their prejudice towards FC and has been taking a look at available footage.

Let it go, man. Or if you don't like to let go of a permanent grudge towards FC, at least be objective enough to look at facts, not on conjecture.

You mean that wasn't about a little lesbian tongue twisting?  Well that deflates my 'interest'.

But regardless of what the scene was actually about, the quality was really awful.  The character skins themselves were atrocious and the interior design was pathetic.  I mean, the exterior scenery is pretty respectable, but what they chose to show in this was so inferior that I'm surprised that at some point, someone with an ounce of artisitic skill, didn't stand up and say: "You want to show this piece of crap to generate interest?  Are you guys idiots?"

And as for the message, isn't that scene supposed to be something that a new player is going to experience in the first few minutes of joining their faction?  How much research will they need to do before logging in for the first time so that what they see presented to them means something other than softcore porn?  I'm not familiar with the background and yes, there was a subtext to the scene, that much is clear.  But it still left this neophyte with the impression that recruitment into that faction is performed through oral sex.

Not a bad way to get inducted, to be honest, but don't tell me there was some high brow concept that could be gleaned from it other than "Look at the two chicks get it on -- cool huh?"  That's what was presented and that's how it was meant to be interpreted.  The only thing that really bothers me about it is that is that it was of such poor quality.  Otherwise, I'm a fan of lady love.

Aye. Well said. I always thought Funcom's marketing tactics were of the cheapest, lowest kind. Also with AoC it has been totally off the mark for me in whatever hook they tried (blood & gore, violence & brutality, tits & sexiness, etc).

I've got nothing against adult content, heck there should be much more of it in games in general (average gamer being 37+ or so), but to flaunt it like a whore to sell or hype your games is an insult to the intelligence (and average age) of your customers in my opinion.

Must be they really are convinced that their main target group is much younger than the average mmorpg gamer.

Actually having it is great. What's not so great is to use it as a highlight of your marketing attempt.
