I used to play EQII, but when i hit the 20+ wall that everyone talks about i decided to give WoW europe beta a go.
I didn't want to like Wow, all the gaudy colours, the immature community etc... but I LOVE IT! Wow does everything that EQII does, but better. Ok so the graphics aren't amazing, but you don't notice that after a while, the game is so hassle free and allows you to play as you want without putting stupid obtacles in your way. There aren't as many tossers playing as i thought there would be, and even kill stealers help you out by weakening the mob you are fighting.
Just hit 15th with my Dorf Hunter, hopefully 20 wont be the wall it was in EQII. A great game, and what mmorpgs should have been all this time.

I was also in EQ2 during beta and for the free month of retail, I didnt like the game at all. I was an EQ player of 5 years previously as well as numerous other mmo's.
I've got to say WoW is fantastic, very atmospheric and I think the graphics suit the game better than Eq2's. Things are just so much slicker and there are no zone loading in this massive world from what I've seen so far.
The crafting system is excellent as well and makes crafting actually bareable unlike eq2.
And everything seems to work too :P which is a plus.
It's cause in this world, there are hardcore gamers, and there's just gamers.
Gamers are there to just have fun and wanna play a game. All Blizzard games are like that. They aren't complicated, they are fun, they appeal to everyone... more or less.
Hardcore gamers want strict rules, want perma-death, they are over-competitive for nothing... they kinda wanna prove they are the best in a game.
I don't have anything to prove through a game, I just want to play and have fun. If a game is stoping me from having fun, like if I die and I have to spend the next 3 hours killing more creatures to pay back my experience debt, where's the fun in that? I'm being punished for doing an error. I've done enough errors in real life and got somewhat punished for it, I don't wanna re-experience it through games.
And well, since there are more normal casual gamers than hardcore gamers, it's obvious why WoW sold so much.

I am happy to hear that you like WoW and I am sorry that the game you had your hopes up for turned out to just be a dead end. Or are you gonna play both?
You are comparing 2 heavily PvE centered games... EQ and WOW are stagnant sterile games... with what seems as colourful PvE at the beginning and very pointless or none existant PvP.
Saying WoW is better than EQ2 is like saying WoW is not awful... it's only bad.
It's pretty good, yeah. But it would be even better if they sorted their servers out. Release date I had averge latency of 80, now its about 300. Kepp getting disconnected, other guildies have similar probs and gfx card probs. Most of the guild I am in are level 20+ already and it's been out what 5 days in Europe. There is easy and casual then there is very easy!
btw I play both EQ2 and WoW at least I don't have to wait to get playing EQ2
.
I know what you mean about easy leveling. Personally though, I like the feeling of achieving something more often. I'm not the most patient bloke on the planet.
I also get the feeling Blizzard won't turn their backs on the people that have reached the level cap quickly.
The replies in this post also speak volumes for the community. One of my biggest fears for the EU release was the complaints about the community in the US would materialise in the EU. Doesn't seem to the case though. My only gripe is the volume of people asking "where is .... " and "how do I .... " without seeming to have searched or tried to figure stuff out themselves.

The only griefing I've had in WoW was when I was fishing someone stood where the bob was so basically I couldn't fish, but they got bored after 20 seconds heh.
As Im only lvl 13 I havent come across the quest gankers yet.
I've actually seen more annoying behaviour in EQ2 (I won't even mention group play lol), especially some particularly arrogant tossers on traders channels. Try and sell anything outside what I call "The Price Police"'s range or idea of how the collective "they" want to sell(or buy) something at and you get accused of either price gouging or undercutting. And then they call it a free market.
world of warcraft, hands down, is the best MMORPG i have ever played...and i have played quite a bit. I understand that not all people will find the same enjoyment that I have, but at least give it a try. I agree with the person who said there is hardcore players and then there are casual players. I am a casual player, and also hated the fact that you had to regain your EXP in other MMORPGS. True, it does give you an incentive not to die, but come on...i earned that EXP, dont take it away.
Just go look at the game sales and subscriptions...the numbers dont lie. WoW has to be doing something right...
just my opinion...take it or leave it.
