Are there gameplay differences between the factions

ompgamingompgaming Member UncommonPosts: 188

Between the three factions are there differences in equipment and capabilities are are they essentially three identical factions with different skins and names on equipment?

If they do vary, is there somewhere that I can figure out which playstyle would fit me best?  The SOE page seems lacking in information beyond the basics of the game.  I'm surprised they don't even have forums over there, yet.

Yes there are differences in the factions. As for what they will be exactly in Planetside 2 I cant rightfully say right now. In the original some of the key differences came in each factions primary weapon and Tank. Terran Republic had a killer chain gun for example that could wipe out droves of players. The Vanu Sovereignity had a tank levitated and could traverse over water. The New Conglomerate had a bad ass tank that did a substantial amount of damage when compared to the others.

We can only base things off of Planetside 1.  In that game the NC were all about hard hitting weapons.  Their tank fired slower and did more damage, their heavy weapon was a shotgun that did massive damage, and their MAXs well.. they were MAXs.

The TR were all about rate of fire.  Their tank had 2 turrets and room for an extra person (someone seperate manned the cannons and the anti infantry weapon, unlike the NC tank where the gunner switched between both) their heavy weapon was a chaingun, that like said before me, did great damage to large groups.  And their MAXs could anchor to the ground to become immobile and increase their rate of fire even more.

The VS were all about weird technology.  Their tank and buggy could hover, all their racial weapons didn't use different types of ammo for infantry and armor, they simply switched firing modes.  their heavy weapon the "lasher" could lash out for small amounts of damage if the projectile missed the target, and their maxes had jumpjets.

I'd bet they'll be doing something similar.  Rate of fire for TR, hard hitting for NC and weird stuff for VS, but how those traits manifest in the weapons and vehicals we will have to wait and see.

Thats good stuff, thanks for the info guys.  How did the different factions aircraft vary, if at all?

In the previous game, there were no empire specific aircraft. Everyone had access to the same type of aircraft. That has changed in PS2.

From what we know, the TR's aircraft is the fastest but lightly armored. NC is heavy hitting and slow. VS, well, I guess it technically doesn't fly. Uses the planets magnetic fields to 'fly' around. I think it's advantage is that it can strafe side to side fast. Oh, and it looks like a Cylon raider.

Being a cylon raider is ALMOST enough.  Thanks for the info.  As the game gets closer to launch, I'll see what extra information they put out on it.
