You know I finally couldn't help myself but to subscribe to Vanguard again. Upon getting in the game, I said hello to everyone and told them I just started out again. The there was a message from a GM - Congratulations "characeter name" You're the 1000th player returning! About 2 mins later an in game GM popped up and gave me some nice stuff. It does seem like people are coming back after all. Currently in the game we're at 1001 players that returned according to the in game GM.

This is probably the best time to get back into the game because they are celebrating the 5th anny for this game and there are prizes and presents to be had! The event ends on the 6th of February. So hurry up and come enjoy the game!

Are they still on 2 servers, or have they finally merged it to a single server?

I remember the EU server was empty and most EU players were moving to the USA one.

    Returning since when?  2008...

    Game needs F2P badly.

It seems indeed a lot of players are returning currently. That said, I think that GM was making a joke there:) I do not think he actually keeps a list of players that returned, but rather that he had seen a lot of 'Hello, I'm back'-messages in chat that day (I know, cause I was online all the time too ;))

Anyways, welcome back to ze best game

Maybe a lot of people have come back, that would be nice if so...I would resub.

A month to two months ago, however...the game was lucky to have 150 (or maybe it was around a 100, in any case that was peak and a really low number) or so people on on the mainland and the trial island was dead quiet, with only about 10 people on at most. Before Skyrim and SWTOR, the trial isle was packed with so many people that the /who list didn't get them all. And mainland was quite busy as well.

I've even heard that Twylight Song (biggest guild in the game) only had 12 people at most, and that was their highest in a two month period.

Has that changed then? I don't know if a population would go up that quick, unless people are mass leaving SWTOR or coming back from Skyrim and other games.

I came back this week...kept getting CTDs at odd moments.  I barely saw anyone or heard anyone in chat and coupled with the CTDs..I'm not too savvy to log back in to be honest.   That on top of still no content patch as promised...

  • LetsinodLetsinod Member UncommonPosts: 385

So sad really.  Disheartning that Twylight Song is now dead.  We tried that mmorpg.com guild (After Hours) a few years ago back (damn has it really been 3 years this May!!) and just couldn't keep the people.  SOE is always promising content patches and new things but nothing materializes.  The game will be dead until it goes F2P now.

I reactivated 2 days ago. According to the vanguard forums they added some more people  to the dev team but are not allowed to say why just yet.

me thinks f2p might be incomming

Well, 16 people on different levels is still not exactly much, though.

  • ValkaernValkaern Member UncommonPosts: 497

This game is, in my opinion, the most deserving of developer attention of anything that's released since 2007.  The skeleton of a great game is there, if only they would allocate resources flesh it out.

People are always quick to say that no game will ever compete with your first love in the genre (or to say so seemed popular a few years back anyway), however the beta version (2005-2007) of Vanguard is right up there alongside EQ & DAoC for me as one of my most memorable and addictive online experiences. I admit some of that is down to a beta community that helped make that world a great place to be, but a lot of it was due to the raw potential the game had.

With the behind the scenes drama that caused this title so many hiccups during development long in the past, I would love to see a fresh stab at 'finishing it' or simply pushing on with its development.

Sony has apparently had success across the board with their free to play conversions, and I can't think of a better candidate than Vanguard.

I am currently leveling a toon and I will admit its rough going, but when you find a group, man does this game shine. F2P may be the best thing to ever happen to Vg if it is done properly.

I did a search the other night and 20 people were online.

Well, that's a little sad. On any given night I can usually find that many people in Freeport (EQOA - Castle Lightwolf server).

Well, I'm firmly in the camp that one is responsible for one's own fun.

However, one can also put forth a little effort for a bigger bang.

same night, 16 people and one of the members put forth that he was looking for a group. As you said, people were of different levels. However, as some people forget, you can mentor down.

The particular person was 18. Normally I prefer to just explore by myself but I'm also interested in helping out when I can. So I told him to meet me in the northeast part of qualia as I was going to fool around there for a bit.

We met up and since my character was 25 he wasn't really getting any xp per kil. For me that is never an issue. Just 30 minutes prior I was exploring an area and not getting any xp per kill. But then again, I play these games for various experiences.

In any case, I mentored down and it seemed that my survival took a bit of a hit as some of my skills were no longer useful. Suddenly someone pm'ed us and asked if we wanted a third. So Yadda yadda yadda, there we were doing some quests and esssentially have a pretty good time.

Had it been earlier I would have stayed on longer than the hour I allocated to that venture but it was rather late.

Additionaly there were other people in chat who were also asking for groups or just questions. Any number of people could have joined if they wanted.

I suppose in the end, what I'm trying to say is that it seems most people are always interested in others making the groups. There I was, a soloer and I was in a group of 3. Had I been a bit more ambitous and had it been earlier I bet we could have done some other areas, and even gotten a 4th.

When you have a lot of people playing alone sometimes it just takes one to say "hey, this is what I'm doing, who is in?"

There was 12 people online when i first created a character on the NA server and went up to about 20 this was earlier today.

I'm not sure if anyone else is subscribed to SOE All Access Game pass but for one subscription you get premium access to Vangaurd: Saga of Heroes, EQ1+2, FreeRealms, Planetside (and if I'm not mistaken Planetside2 will be part of it also) , Pirates of the Burning Sea, DC Universe Online for $19.99 a month is reasonable?

Only added cost's are the initial game purchase which for me i only have had to purchase Vangaurd for $5.95

This game just needs a subscription/F2P model like LOTRO and DCUO, once more f2p players join the playerbase should increase aslong as there is content

Sorry, but that is simply inaccurate.

Never, since the merger has Telon been that low.

Even now, at 1230 EST tuesday morning the /who all list is truncated meaning a min of 41 ppl on.  10 online are in twighlyte song alone.

  • ABRaquelABRaquel Member UncommonPosts: 541

Folks need to use the proper commands to see the total online population. /who all count

Me and my better half started playing the game 2 weeks ago, as far as population go, it's around 160 during a weekday, 200ish during a weeknight and during the weekends it can almost reach 400 to 500 online (this is US tmz). Granted it still is a very low population and with a world as massive as Telon, it can seem rather empty.

  • prescortprescort Member Posts: 45

and for a P2P game that is horrible....

  • AdamantineAdamantine Member RarePosts: 5,085

The lowest number I've ever gotten on Telon was over 60 for /who all count

It was 140 yesterday (during the week).

Granted, when I came to Telon, it was much higher, but 20 people for Telon sounds very unlikely to me.

I always had (still have) big love for this game but i have sworn to myself i wont return untill the game gets the love it deserves from their own devs.

The community in this game is awesome.....the game itself has had no work since 2010 ( Hotfix 01/20/10 - January 20, 2010 )

The only way i am comming back to VG is when the devs start to care for their product again and not just keeping it live to get your money every month while they just sit back and collect on this game.

realy hate sony for this..... :(

I've always wanted to try this game, seeing it praised on an almost daily basis..

i just cant bring myself to sub to an unsupported product.

Community makes most of a MMO to me, but I'm afraid to find a dead empty world lying before me.

in the open world...its all empty......because the gameworld is very huge and not so many people playing it.

But if you are a guild player the game might be something for you tough.....like i sayd...the community is good in this game.

But if you want a filled world you would better pass on it idd.

i created a new char last night -a pcionist, and proceeded to be sexually harrassed by this one char all over the island..he/she must have been pissed but i was laughing at all the comments.i think its a miracle tbh this game has seen 5 yrs, given the state it was in at release.but still the greatest mmo i ever played by far-if only it had some attention things may have been different, but greedy sony destroyed any chance of that..but i dont blame them for all the problems that this game had.sigil wanting to release this game to early are the main culprits...are'nt they supposed to be doing some lvl 50 content for this game now or a dungeon..or have they knocked that on the head as well.

0 blame goes to SOE you would not have a game if they didnt step in and take a risk that burned them.  Sigil was poorly managed made promises and deadlines they could not reach so microsoft got fed up and cut funding.  SOE stepped up and allowed 6 more months of beta ( what sigil asked for) and the game stil wasnt even close to done.    The blame is 100% brads simple as that.   I did hear SOE is puting a new dev team on the game probably for a future f2p launch.
