Class Descriptions - Breakdown

VegettoVegetto Member Posts: 841

Right, just so i can get my head around what the different classes achieve (there seems to be alot of overlap in melee), am i right in thinking the following:

Slayer: Hybrid Melee
Berserker: Melee Off-tank
Lancer: Tank
Warrior: Evasion off-tank/DPS

Bit easier now:

Priest: Healer
Sorcerer: Ranged Damage/CC
Archer: Ranged Damage - Seems a solo PVErs one here
Mystic: Healer Support/Buffs/Pets

A few of those are the standard fayre, but a couple such as the melee ones seem to overlap alot (except lancer)

Its easy to understand,  they are basically two arch types of each role.

    Tanks:

Lancer.   Main traditional tank (plate armor, block)

Warrior.  Evasion tank (leather armor, fast speed, dodge)

    Melee DPS:

Berserker.  Axe welding, High DPS (plate armor, slow speed, block)

Slayer.  2h sword, Med DPS (leather armor,  dodge)

    Range DPS:

Archer.  Bow, Med DPS (leather armor,  traps)

Sorcerer.  High DPS (cloth armor,  evasion skills)

    Healer:

Priest.  Main healer,  High burst heals, group buffs (def, run speed, att power)

Mystic.  Med heals, summon pets,  DoT's, Group buffs.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

so no thief type class huh? interesting choice... guess that could be seen as a good thing or bad.. I assume there's no stealth in this game then

The slayer is the closest to a traditional thief type class. Melee range, medium armor. It would only be the 2handed sword wielding that seems to throw it off. But then what weapon you use is really just cosmetic. Would the class need to change significantly or at all if that sword was a dagger and the class name was Thief?

i would say stealth has sort of been the defining part of any thief/assassin type class in games.. will be interesting if  this game doesn't have stealth..

ahh, well that is a good point. I was thinking of it more in terms of in combat damage and avoidance. But stealth is pretty common. Perhaps they are avoiding it for some kind of balancing reason? Or maybe we will see more classes added later. That would be cool.

yea well stealth is a funny thing because in most MMOs stealth classes are usually the top played class at least for pvp but its also the most complained about skill in pvp so it will be interesting to play pvp in a mmo with no stealth class

Actually they said they are adding a class in a future patch, there was a timeline for future content somewhere...maybe someone else knows better.

I think the closest thing to a stealth ability as far as skills go would be the warrior & slayers "attack from rear" skill,  it can be used at range so its pretty dam good.  Also the blink skill for sorcerer & mystic is good also,  if you glyph it, it will have a chance to reset it's cooldown (it proc's at a good rate).  I have seen sorcerers in pvp blink teleport 3-4 times in a row.

Slayer sounds like the ninja / rogue class. If i am right, why not give them 1 or dual Katanas instead of that massive warrior sword?... And If i am wrong, then why make another warrior with a slayer name just to wear lighter armor and a 2h sword?.

I say if Slayer is a rogue class give them Katanas or something else.... its ridiculous to have various different warrior classes taht only differentiate each other by the type of armor they can use.

so I assume the attack from rear teleports you behind the target?  only thing im sort dissapointed with no stealth is pve actually.. it was nice stealthing through an area you didn't feel like fighting in to get to a quest objective and such..

From what I little I have read on the melee classes they are different in many ways besides armor. AoE attacks, debuffs, bleeds, dodge chance, DPS amounts, HP, Sheild, duel weild, ect.

I dont know much about them I admit as I usually play RDPS or healer/buffer classes. The melee seem to be different enough to all play unique in their own way tho.
