The SWTOR Good or Bad confusion

Dark_HUmarDark_HUmar Member UncommonPosts: 200

I used to go with the hype in the past thats why I waited to get into SWTOR. But I read so many mixed opinions about it that I am wondering if It will be my game. I don't mind casual games neither hardcore games as long they are fun to play but also always have content to do ( I am not really a "make more then 1 character" person) But I have times I play alot and I hate running out of content, don't mind grining mobs and dungeons to get mounts, armor etc etc. To make a long story a bit shorter I wan't to hear some posetive opinions about this game since I got sick of reading all the negative things (I know what bad parts the game has) but also want to read some posetive things since I don't believe in that all the milions of people who bought the game all followed the hype.

    Positives:

Game has tons of voice acting and cinematics, like being in a movie.

If you liked certain classes in MMOs that came before you can probably find one that fits you in SWTOR.

Visit many classic locations from both the KOTOR games and the movies.

There is space combat, if you liked starfox you will like it.

I really like the sound effects and music, very cinematic and they spent time on it, e.g. different light sabers have different sounds. Even outside of cutscenes there is a lot of cool dialogue thrown in, for e.g. your companions will comment on new places you visit.

There is enough customization that you don't look like everyone else (could be more granted).

I played SWTOR from launch to about a week ago.  I got a 50 bounty hunter in a nice set of PvP gear, and a 30 Sentinel.  You can't take gaming forums as the sole feedback because a vocal few can paint a really skewed picture while those that are loving the game are in the game and not on forums.  You have to find the few reasonable educted people and take from their writeups and mix that with official reviews and general game info to get a good picture.

Look in the end it is a pretty darn good game with solid polish and good solo gameplay.  The instances are fun enough, and PvP can be pretty fun, but overall world PvP is very rare and not very supported outside of the end game planet which is fun for about a week to someone like me who plays a lot of FPS, RTS, DOTA style games.  It can become shallow fast.  The end game is a bunch of RNG grind that after a week or two will have you asking yourself WTH am I doing?  It is certainly worth the box price and most could get a char to max in the free month, or maybe 1 extra month of sub which is still well worth it.

In the end it is another themepark with a linear content grind that expires pretty quickly with some shallowly hidden grind to wait at the end game.  I could not even bring myself to take a seperate sided char all the way to 50, but some will be able to and retain their enjoyment.

It is a high production quality game that will grow into something quite solid, and it is a more complete game than most MMO's at launch.

You won't run out of content until the very end where there are a lot of group instances and some raids and some PvP.

Simple way to tell if you will like SWTOR...

    1.  If you like games like WoW, Rift, Aion, WAR...and would not mind playing another game that bears an extreme similarity to them.

    and

    2.  If you like the Bioware dialog system, VO, and story-telling from Mass Effect 1.

If both of these are true, then you will probably like SWTOR.

It is essentially a cross between WoW and a recent Bioware RPG like Mass Effect or DA2.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

not really true I love themeparks and I love games like kotor, mass effect, and DA. But I'm struggling to find any reason to keep logging in... main reason is the single player aspect is subpar compared to true single player rpgs and the mmo aspect is subpar compared to games like rift... game was made for star wars fanboys who never played MMOs before. If you fall into that category you probably will like the game

Thanks for the information guys !

Yes I do like games like Rift and World of Warcraft but most of the time I run out of content and get very disapointed by the game because I have nothing to do. Maybe thats my own fault for playing to mutch :P Will give SWTOR a go but will not play it 24/7 ! Thx again for the information !

I have two level 50's and a mid 20's so I have played a lot since launch.  Take that for whats its worth.

I find leveling in this game really fun.  The class quests are not as well done as ME2 for instances but they still are very good.  And given that it will take you 2-3 times the length to see the end of a class quest in SW:TOR as ME2 I think a lot of that is it just takes a long time to get though it (I.e. the quests are not as tightly written).  But like I said it is a enjoyable trip for the most part and having the freedom to split off and do Group quests/instnaces, PVP, crafting, space missions, etc. helps a lot take the edge of leveling.  The worlds are a mixed bag of narrow passages to huge open spaces and you have to visit them alll to get though your class quests so some you will like more than others depending on personal taste.

Currently I am not liking level 50 all that much personally.  If you don't have a very active group of people to play with the level 50 game will feel flat and lifeless which I guess can be said about any MMO.  My guild isn't as active as I had hoped and I'm currently evaluating what I am going to do to fix that.  That's not really the games fault except that they really didn't consider how to add "enjoyable" solo activities at 50.  There isn't a lack of things to do just a lack of motivation or rewards to do most of them unless there are others around to group up with.
