Maybe Themeparks have been played to death. Its time for something different? I thought I was going to love SWTOR, I cant get past lvl 30  :( I think Ima try Rift, it has free weekend I think this weekend.

Maybe Im getting too old for MMOs.

Good luck, but Rift is just as bad if not worse.

I'd say it's worse. The invasions/rifts are gimmicky and the questing experience is mind numbing... TOR at least makes the questing less-mind numbing with some truly awesome dialogue moments and class story stuff...

But yeah, lots of random world quests I really stopped caring about.

PvP is pretty much the same. Some OP classes, balance issues, same maps over and over again.

Crafting is fairly similar, just without the companions and missions part of it.

I don't know though, been a long while since I played Rift.

meh, I didn't like Rift in beta. Only things I loved were the invasions and they just didn't hold my interest as they were very "finite".

I'm having a blast in SWToR and dont care about "end game" as I don't beleive in it so I'm just going to play and have fun.

I don't know if Rift is worst than TOR but I think it wont be that much better. I gave it a try and only lasted so long in the beta, don't think you will find your fix there by what you are saying.

If you don't like TOR, you will probably hate RIFT for the same reasons you don't like TOR.

Then there is no hope :( Obi-wan Kenobi failed me.

Agree, if your looking for relief from themepark MMOs.. Rift is Definitely not the answer. I think Rift is far more mindnumbing than SWTOR is.

    My only suggestions:

    1) try one of the older none themepark established MMOs.

    2) Wait for GW2  (themepark-esk, but not to the extent of Rift or TOR.)

    3) Stick to some single player games till these clowns stop making themepark mmos.

    4) Get into another type of gamestyle. (FPS, RTS co-op RPGS)

The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.

The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...

Yes, it is time for something different and Rift is definitely not that something. I know because I've played it for 5 months. Anyway you can't say that you are bored to death of Themepark MMOs in general until you've actually tried one that isn't based of the WoW/EQ model. So wait for Guild Wars 2, The Secret World and even ArchAge, as they are all Themepark MMOs (sort of) that offer features that deviate, in some way, from the norm. Then if those bore you, then you can finally head off to the Themepark MMO retirement home, where all the disgruntled Sandbox purist go to die. image

I'm thinking of going back to one of the two sandboxes i used to play:

    Fallen Earth or EvE.

Fallen Earth is a bit wierd in that there's not actually anything to strive for.

I can play EvE, if i make a mod which changes the colour of the background every 5 minutes so it doesn't feel like i'm actually staring at this black textbox for hours.

The games are quite similar. Both are casual themeparks, one is high fantasy and the other Star Wars. One has voice overs and interesting storylines, the other one got Rifts/Invasions.

Other than those differences they play pretty much the same. The class system in Rift is alot more interesting though.

No, I don't think so but as I said in my own review, maybe you and I are getting to old for lazy MMO developers.

The reviewer from Zero Puntuation often remarks that nobody has really improved upon half-life except Valve with Half-Life 2.

Quake was not a bad game but when Valve used that as a basis for the original HL, a new standard was set and that means that anyone who then releases a product that only meets the old standard, is not good enough anymore.

If you run the 1 mile olympic winner speed of 1910, you might not even qualify today.

SWTOR just didn't raise the standard and it shows, the servers are far from crowded even at what should be peak times. Sales figures are high but flattening, you can go to a start planet already (class quest will take you there) and find it as empty as some of the high level areas.  Not good on under a month.

The game just isn't good enough.

    Bugged nodes.

Group content hidden behind solo content making grouping unnecessarily hard because of "I don't have that quest yet".

    Basic chat.

    Non functional LFG tool.

Boring time and credits consuming crafting.

    Combat that is to simple.

Companions that make no sense with no choice. A sniper I get the bitch, 2nd companion is on alderaan a melee dps (just what I don't need as a ranged DPS).

    No coloring.

    No apparance only clothing.

Insane amount of walking when travelling involving your ship.

    ---

None of these issues are killers on their own but altogether, they just leave me with two feelings.

    A: Haven't I seen this before

B: Is this it? 100 million dollars, 5 years of delvelopment... not good enough.

Maybe GW2 can deliver on the promise of a MMO that actually is going to raise the bar. SWTOR sure as hell hasn't.
