Is TOR's mechanics and gameplay just evolving the Skinner Box in MMOs?
Don't know about Skinner Box? http://www.cracked.com/article_18461_5-creepy-ways-video-games-are-trying-to-get-you-addicted.html

The fans of this game came to grips with that years ago.
This attitude is exactly what is holding mmos back.
And the Skinner Box wins again when you call it home.
Sometimes it's best to just accept things for the way they are.
Some people don't like being controlled and told where to go, how and when.
However, most gamers these days love the incessant hand-holding.
"Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it. It is a brand on the imagination that affects the individual who has suffered it, forever." - Noam Chomsky
Can I say it again that the Skinner Box won again? Calling it home already?
More like the devs that try to innovate the genre keep failing to produce games that grab people, with few exceptions. Such as EVE.
So investors are less willing to take risks.
.. But in a good way.
Your thread is most likely gonna get locked again Are you gonna repost it a 3rd time in attempt to bait?
.. But in a good way.
Yeah probably, since I'm just trying to hold a dicussion.
trolling? trying to sound enlightened? /pass but most computer games can be a form of skinner box. The point is?
Not like it's a new concept, it's been the norm for themeparks since the first EQ. Might not have been as refined as it is now, but it still existed as a driving force behind themepark development.
Also, I can't help but get the impression that you just found out about this concept/experiment name a few days ago.
The point is Bioware did nothing to make the game 'fun' but instead evolved the skinner box. Still hearing people say "the game gets better down the road, I promise" Yeah, sounds like Bioware improved the Skinner Box, instead of making something 'fun'
... Right.
.. But in a good way.
But MMOs do it so much better. You're giving them money to play a game that is the same for years. I'm not playing Uncharted 1 anymore because it's not a skinner box.
No... because the game is actually fun. The great storyline and cinematics are there specifically so that the game does not feel like a grind as you find in other MMOs.
Of course every MMO I have played has some of the skinner-box mechanics to keep people playing... INCLUDING sandbox games. It's just the nature of the beast.
