why WOULD the failure of SWTOR be a bad thing?

look, i dont want your game to fail and im happy youre having fun.  i just keep reading  people saying " if swtor fails then the worlds gonna end for mmo's!"

why is this exactly? i can remember when the concept of a mmo wasnt mainstream, and thats probably the best time for mmo's .

 

i dont mean to label all SWTOR fan's think like this, i just wanna know the opinion of those that do.  thanks for your time.
