How should we feel about the new anouncment of 5 more instances? I feel they just stole my wallet..

How should we react to the news about five more instances?

I’m a firm believer that they launched them later, not due to issues on the development, but that they are not a product of their recent expansion. This means that people who already payed for the expansion and are F2P will need to buy coins to get access to the instances. If you’re a VIP member this is not a problem though. But for F2P players who bought the expansion, will also need to pay further for the instances.

TBH I’m getting really fet up with the way Turbine try to lure their customers into a payment trap. The instances should have been in the expansion, instead of (IMO) delayed only for the purpose to make more money. I have no facts to backup this theory, but looking at the past and how Turbines market plan works, this could very well be the fact.

They are not out yet, so we do not know how many turbine coins it will cost to unlock. But a lot people already payed for a expansion which very well could be awarded for the biggest marketing scam ever, alongside the worst expansion in a MMO to date. I usually laugh when people call Blizzard money whores, as any company is. That’s how it works, you try to get a much cash from your customers as humanly possible, while you still try to maintain your moral towards your consumer. But this move from Turbine got me to agree with those who call companies money whores. Because that is what Turbine are now, don’t care about the story line anymore, don’t care about the player, only their wallets and how deep they goes. Turbine lost their moral towards their consumer.

Do you guys think I overreact to this, or do you believe there is a bit of truth to my assumption?

    What are you talking about?

Where does all this missinformation come from all is nicely laid out on LOTRO site?

In fact this thread should be closed due to total (probably deliberate) missinformaton it brings.

People who bought whole expansion through website will access to instances regardless of thier payment plan/expansion edition (Premium/VIP)

People who opted for piecemeal payment will have to buy instances as piecemeal regardless of their payment plan.(F2p/Prmium/VIP)

There will be option for ROI expansion in ingame store once all that was suppsed to be in on launch is released in update 5.

I came back to LotRO having not played since Angmar. Paid 3 months, bought Moria and Mirkwood, pre ordered Isengard and seldom log in any more. I don't feel robbed or fleeced. I invested $150 in a game world. I don't know about you but living on windfalls rather than a steady pay cheque doesn't seem too appealing. Isengard was a windfall. It's not healthy for Turbine or LotRO if they need to create those to make the bills every month. I really doubt Turbine wants to rely on victims to be a success.

The thing Turbine is facing. Frodo took a year to save the world. We have been doing it for 5? Winning all our epic battles and not changing anything. LotRO is static and of course it needs to be. They are at the boundaries of an MMO. It's up to us if we want to pay them to keep it breathing.

I would love to play a new game based on LOTR IP not made by Turbine. I hear that ROI is even worse than their previous updates since Moria which was and still is their only expansion. Turbine's business model seems to be based on ripping off their customers.

  • fenistilfenistil Member Posts: 3,005

Well if consumer bought ROI for cold hard $ then he have instances included in ROI he/she bought.

If consumer bought ROI for Turbine Points (even if consumer bought those points for cold hard cash especially that few days before RoI prices announcement Turbine Points were on sale) then he / she have to buy those 5 instances sepearately.

Anyway. Lotro changed into a lobby game imho. Instance finder is last 'brick' in this change. There won't be any substancial diffrences between Lotro and WoW / Rift gameplay.  Just sitting in a cities / running dailies and queuing for instances through Dungeon Finder and grinding medallions, marks and stuff like that to barter for gear.

Other parts of game (open world, group non-instanced activities, PvPM, housing, hobbies, etc) are neglected for years by Turbine already.

If anyone want to still hang around waiting for those, then be my guest - I decided not to.

Well I am not personally interested in this type of gameplay anymore.

If some people are happy for what focus Lotro provides atm then good - hope you have fun.

    I am out.

I bought ROI for cash, played it for about a week, and haven't logged back on it since.  That was the worst exp I have seen to date for what it cost.  I really dislike F2P games, but gave them a chance since I liked the game up to the point it went F2P.  No more.  It's a money sink imo.

F2P doesn't always = Fun 2 Play.  I'm done with it for good.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

You see nothing wrong with Turbine's business model practices apparently... and since that is the case you will not understand the OP's complaint or point of view.

Some of us see Turbine's current business practices as down right sleezy to be honest.

I still play LotRO because my Wife and Daughters play, some friends of mine still play... LotRO for us is like the WoW family-social experience for others is. I miss the days when I never saw an advertisement for the LotRO Store, when the World was *the* game and there were few Instances. We still have fun in LotRO, at least until the "Buy it Now" stuff shows up or until the notice that I have earned Turbine Points pops on my alerts. I try to ignore it the best I can like a bad TV commercial.

To me Turbine is now the Used Car Salesman of the MMO Genre.... and they choose to be that.

Have to agree with OP about the milking of Turbines customers with NOT adding these 5 instances to the RoI expansion. On the other, Turbina was honest about these 5 instances NOT to be included with the expansion BEFORE the release of RoI and they said they'd release RoI related instances early december (and now even earlier than they announced back then). So nothing wrong with this and Turbine is not stealing form you since they've been open about this from the beginning.

On the other hand, When you look at the price of RoI and about how the player-base bashes it in terms of game-play (not being of full expansion quality but rather an update and only a few hours of gameplay in it), I see OP's point.

As a life-time subscriber from the old CodeMasters services, I feel cheated as well BIG TIME here. I have had 9K TP in my account before the RoI release and I've spent already half of it for the RoI expansion. Now I have to buy 5 more instances as well. This way, my 'TP savings' run out fast and with the coming expansions, I'm starting to wondering if I'll have enough Tp left to buy them from the shop, or that I should pull my wallet as well.

Aside from that, the moment the servers were moved to the US, I gave up on LotRo completely. I've had some problems with Turbine in the past (sucky CS experiences), and with the higher ping now and mainly solo RPG experience it's time to move on. And IMO we all should move on and show Turbine how THEIR PLAYERS think about what they've made of OUR game (Tolkiens actually)...

Umm, funny that you dont mention OP is completely wrong and even goes to elaborate his completely wrong claim which just makes him a funny troll. You joind in on trolling. Feel good about it?

I dont notice buy it now stuff or popping, i concentrate on playing the game when i play and not deliberately looking for buy it now stuff or any other stuff. Suggest you do the same.

Its like endlessly complaining about commercial break in movies. So you dont watch movies/tv shows either?

Hmm, just so you learn a few well used short words on the web

IMO = In my opinion, to explain it further, it means its my opinion and mine alone, it mean i dont claim anything but i speak on behalf of how i feel.

So maybe you should start the whole troll calling business when you fail to understand what i try to say. They prolong the game, to make us pay more. make us wait for instances. thats was i said, just in fewer words, since too much text confuse you.

Heck, i even state that i have NO facts to back me up ... how can you even be stupid enough to say i claim anything then? ..

Quote me, if you can find anywhere where i claim i am right. if you cant, then stop making a fool of ya self.

Yes, claiming people who already bought expansion will have to pay for instances...again...after they already bought an expansion is trolling.

People who alrady bought expansion WILL get instances/access to instances/whatever. Your claim and elaboratin is wrong. Period.

All this was known well before ROI launched. As well as price of instances in TP(along with price of questpack/dragon raid). So you cant really claim you didnt know this, its something out of the blue/whatever.

If you didnt know...well for sure you have a lot to say about subject you know nothing about. "I didnt know about it" is no excuse since info is very accesible to anyone who really wants to know and not just troll some forums.

Yeah, Turbine is greedy evil money making company as all other companies are, and no they dont steal money from you, you get everything you pay for. EOD.

Seriously, i didnt claim shit, nor am i CLAIMING i didnt know. I'm just saying my opinion on the whole thing. I will claim that you minsunderstand everything i say, yet i still tell you my feeling and my opinion about it ... I give up you seriously too stupid to understand.

My post is not about what i know, what i could find out, what i didnt find out ... its just my feeling about how THE WHOLE THING IS HANDLED BY TURBINE.

Again stop using the word CLAIM when you easily can see i didnt claim (aside from you misunderstand me, either on purpose or because, nah i dont wanna guess)  anything i simply speak my opinion about a business model i disaprove of! .. geez man read before you talk

So, your post is about this "feeling" you have, although its well known it wont be like that for almost 3 months.

Okies. Unfortunately it shows how much you are into facts and how much you are into this feelings. Facts>feelings.

And my posts are just about feeling you knew its not going to happen  that way (since it takes 3 minutes to actually find info you need and you had almost 3 months to do that) and just wanted to troll a bit *shrug*

So a piece of advice: next time you get these feelings first check out the facts.

    Whatever, Mikahr -

if you think Turbines business model is good, that great for you. I'm just telling my opinions and feelings towards it. I played Lotro once where it was all about the story and the community. Thats why i express my sad opinions on how a company ruined their own brand. (again this is my opinion, i dont have facts to back up that its actually ruined, but for me it is, and from posts here it seems im not alone)

If you like the new ways in Lotro, cool for you. I just dont understand you :)

  • kevjardskevjards Member UncommonPosts: 1,452

i cerainly dont think we are being fleeced since they made these details very clear that the instances would come later, after roi was released..so there is no misinformation..they have been very honest and upfront in my view..saying that though roi sucks big time...if it had have came with the instances you would have thought you got your moneys worth..but because they came after peeps think that they have not had there moneys worth..when all in all, there only a few weeks late..no biggie i,ll still be playing, hoping its gonna improve..on a personal note i think the IP should have gone to someone else, pvp is a joke.and everything these days seem to be  related to the damn store.

They ruined their game with MoM. Thats when they threw out story and community out of the window, game practically took 180 turn and crapped on existing (established) community, and it bit Turbine in their backs. Now they at least try not to do that.

New model is great, even better for me personally than old one (and im a lifer). The "new ways of LOTRO" is just more various payment options. Waaaaaay too many people are stuck on that and make something out of nothing. "but but but....theres a "buy now" button" So what. Ignore it. Its not required for anything (and i said the day when i cant normally play the game without store is the day i leave).

Facts are that ROI is most successful LOTRO expansion (Turbines official words). You may spin it any way you want it - but F2P did work. Should Turbine do more content? Yes (thats actually [insert MMO of yor choice] standard mantra).

The true effects of increased F2P revenue should become visible next year. If its not (conditionally) better, then yah, it will be farewell LOTRO cause, nothing changed. So, we'll see. When it is actually bad (as was MoM) people did vote with their wallets. And atm i dont see that happening (like it was evident after MoM). Ill give them a benefit of a doubt for some 6-8 months before i join "sky is falling" train. There isnt anything else thats different and interesting to play anyway.

Few weeks? ROI was released 27th September. Thats nearly 2 months ago. When the instance arrives that might be 3 month after the expansion. That is prolonging in my opinion, keeping VIP paying, keeping people buying from shop etc because a they are wating.

Honest is not a word Turbine can use, try read their advert for ROI, the one they send in mail to everyone, the one that you find if you search google. That advert tell us that the expansion has a lot more to it than it has. That they might have some fishy comment on a forum, does not help the fact that their marketing and adverts does not tell the trust.

Tbh i have been a big fan of the game, really loved it, imo it use to have the best enviorment of all MMOs, always relaxing and good times.. It saddens me to go anti-turbine, had you asked me a few years back, i would have said they are doing a REALLY good job (aside from implanting content)...

What you need to ask yourself is this

Is this going to be what roi should have been?

Are they going to have something besides rehashed mobs and former areas remeshed togther called new content?

Are first ages going to have more then 2 points of xtra dmg?

overall based on what ive heard from people who have tried the new stuff 1 of the 2 people  went f2p/cancelled the other thought it was "ok" but said seemed to be more of the same

Doesnt matter not releasing the new pvp map dec 15th-20th is the kiss of death for lotro pvp community. Hey we got a bird and tree merry xmas lol.

Let the quest for 2% more dmg commence lvl 75 first ages are here!!...sigh

Obviously your informants havent played it since they would know stuff.

Really, so go to spot x and click thingy y is something revolutionary? Theres thousand of such quests in LOTRO. In fact, in my 25 levels in SWTOR i havent encountered any quests different than LOTRO. Go to x click on y. Kill z creaturens on the way. And z was starting to go to ridiculous numbers like 135-150.

And as i told you - you heard completely wrong and seems your informants are clueless.

Thank you for asking. Playing SW:TOR felt like playing a top quality P2P game and remembering my 2+ years in Lotro only makes me shudder.

Funny since they play exactly the same. I guess that either speaks high of LOTRO or low on SWTOR.

At least you are not deluded about quest grind.

you know what is nice about tor i dont have 5 plus advertisements when i click on my tor desktop icon. I dont have a loading screen advertising to me buy stuff from a store for 2 minutes then it goes to my load in screen. Thats whatsnice about tor. Want to know more?

When my bags are full i send my companion off to sell my stuff and they return with the money. In lotro i have to buy that from a store or ride all the way back to town and sell my crap. If i want to buy more vualt space i use in game money not turbine store points or i have to buy it from a store.

I dont have to insanely grind for scrolls or buy relics off the turbine store. Theres a in game vendor with decent mods and if i want better ones im getting them along the way with class quest/heroics that i dont have to do 100 times or more. And i dont have to buy a removal scroll to remove relics either i just drag them off the weapon/armor back into my bags.

if you think lotro and tor play the same then you have not played it all lmao. If you want to insult and say people are delusional well what do you call someone who constantly sys a game is great when everyone else says its not then claims lotro didnt lie about a new pvp map and ignores turbine themself admitting it and continues to go on about how great lotro is? thats  definition of insane doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

Tor does not have crap loads of advertisements in your face tor doesnt load in with buy endenwaith quests or buy this now. Tor isnt desgining a game thats routing people to go grocery shopping in the turbine store.

The only thing tor and lotro have in common is in tor bonus missions i.e kill 10 of this as a bonus mission is what lotro considers there main pve content.

    Im confused.

I assumed the 5 instances were supposed to come out later.

I remember reading this back in september.

You buy the expansion and later you get the instances.

Is this wrong? are they double dipping people that paid for the xpac?

Someone explain it to me please.
