In the spot light tends to be a thread killer.
Why? It puts it at the top of a list of stickies, that for the most part, are ignored by posters. Most people don't start looking at forum titles until they reach the first "regular thread" icon, be it blue or orange. As such, the spotlight thread simply dies.
My suggestion: Place a Spotlight thread at the bottom of the stickies, and give it a new Icon (Say a spotlight).
.
This would put the spotlight thread in a spot likely not to be over-looked, AND cause it to stand out from the stickies (thumbtacks) that everyone ignores.
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

I generally access threads in one of two ways:
When I come back to the site, I go to Your Profile, Overview, and look at my Recent Forum Posts to see if anybody replied to me or where those conversations are going.
From the main page, in the section Current Forum Activity I will click on More Posts to get to the Real-time Forum Overview page.
To be honest, I cannot for the life of me ever remember seeing an ITS thread in a particular forum section on its own.
Usually, I find the topic in an ITS thread to have been talked to death by the time it becomes an ITS thread . . . and that is usually the reason they die out.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Actually, more often than not, I'm baffled by the threads the site choses to put up in "the spotlight", generally speaking they are either over worked threads that I've said all I plan on saying or totally uninteresting subjects from my point of view.
Meanwhile the better threads rage on beneath them.......
