I've never been sure hip hop qualifies as music (it has rhythm, but lacks melody), however I won't argue that point. But your friends rap sounded as high quality to me as much of the other 'professional' stuff I've heard.
It made me want to go to Compton, turn sociopathic black gangster, and bust a few caps into some innocent victim. And what could be better than that?
