That is correct. They started the "Feature Episode" series which released 1 new storyline mission a week. Each series was 5 "episodes" (missions) long. The last one ended March 5th of this year. We have had no new content since. They had promised us 4-5 series a year (20-25 missions total) starting with "Season 4" (their patches are called seasons). However Season 4 was delayed and even when it went live no new content came with it. In fact almost half of the content Season 4 was supposed to have was withheld. This content is now being released with the F2P launch on Jan. 17th, as Season 5. Some time after the February 2nd 2 year anniversary, we are supposed to see the resumption of the Feature Episode series. That will put the series resuming a year after the last one. But again, no one is holding their breath; there is still C-store content that hasn't been released.
Got to say that I love seeing ultimate CDF people like Armsman depressed. It just seems like sweet justice to those with valid complaints prior to F2P, that he trampled on. It's so awesome.
Also definitely stay away from this game. It's only going to get worse as was expected when PW bought it. Abandon all hope for customer care, it's all about your wallet.
My god, I haven't loled as much since I killed that Jedi in SWG when I was a bounty hunter and he dueled me for a laugh but not to the death. I killed him and took the bounty. Boy did he shout.
Anyway, I have had a lot of running battles with Armsman who used to try and shout me down for belittled Cryptic or saying STO was not good. I now read his posts and think, serves you right. I only wish I could go on the official forums and tell him so.
He would also say the same thing about TOR and that it was a space shooter on rails. This week, he says he's that upset at Cryptic, he's going to play TOR.
Shesh.
The people too, use to suck up to Cryptic but now... Jonathan Kent, Katic and DavyNY.
Now when the Nagus stops basking in his own glory and stops being the mouthpeice for STO, Revo stops sucking up, Ashara and Maina start listening to both sides instead of telling people "Cryptic is a business, they need to make money" and the worse of the CDF, Nynik start to turn and say they are not happy and are going to stop playing, you know STO is dead...
"Vote STO for best game of 2011 even though it's sucks, it will help Cryptic". Go go Nynik!!!!
Okay JK you guys, er guess what, no I am not. Your sucking up to Cryptic is too cloying...
I think nothing has been more striking to me about STO than the recent, and very abrupt change in tone on the STO forums.
Back in the day, under a different forum name I used, I got shouted down alot for raising too many alarms. Many of the people mentioned in your and Rawiz's posts, were the people that dog-piled on me for predicting the demise of STO.
Christ, it was as if STO was the Godfather and Cryptic was untouchable with some of them. Their holier-than-thou attitudes and "This game is the ultimate power in the universe" stances made any objections to Cryptic and the direction of the game, pretty much meaningless. At times, the Devs would work alongside of them, shutting down threads and stiffling debate that was considered "anti-STO" and would be harmful to the preception of the game.
My, how the winds have changed on the Cryptic Sea.
Longtime supporters and allies of the developers have turned on them, now that they finally see the Cryptic Exit-Strategy coming to fruition. I can only imagine they find themselves in a Neville Chamberlin-esque position of cursing themselves for being so apathetic and appeasing, allowing Cryptic to move right along with the destruction of the game.
Serves them right. I can only sit back and laugh, long and hard, at the misfortune they now suffer through.
I think the most telling has been Nagus. When I saw Nagus' mood change, I knew the fires had been stoked and while I think he tries to temper his criticism of the developers and struggles to keep a somewhat positive attitude, there simply is no way to remain positive about the future there.
For me, this who scenario is a big ol' slice of justice. I saw this coming all the way back in Closed Beta. I predicted this game would flounder, and I saw F2P as it's ultimate destination. Only one more prophecy to be fulfilled, and I can finally go Nelson Muntz on the game and sneer "HA HA!"
Somebody on another thread said they haven't had any new content in 7 months.
Didn't they used to say they were gonna have a new episode every week?
It was a bit more marketing spin from them; they said that, and made it sound like there would be new episodes every week, but it proved to not be entirely accurate as usual. What it turned out to be was that while they were doing a series, they would release an episode every week (or at least that was the goal). However, once a series ended, it would be quite some time before a new series started.
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan
Well I have joined the ranks of the banned people, I cannot post anymore in the forums, I was accused of hate speach because I dare to call the "Tong" I think is the term to the Chinesse maffiosi, I keep following the discussions goin on there and believe me people are upset, the player base is upset and Stormshade is doing everything he can to keep players upset, he is locking topics, banning players and acting like a donkeys exterior excrement deposit conduct.
The game is getting a lot of bad reputation and the leaders of Cryptic are doing nothing. New content is the joke term of the day. Check this out
I'm not banned yet, but I just looked and over half my posts have been deleted. I guess posting up mathamatical analysis of how the changes are nerfing the game in contradiction of the Devs is a no no. I think I've already given up. I have really lost the urge to log in anymore.
I'm just enjoying watching the CDF now playing TMQ ( tuesday morning quaterback ) . Very amusing . They still think, nigh believe , they can aid or influence the fixing of that p.o.s. Even the pronouncements that this or that developer would do a better job. Hilarious. The complaints about content just tickle me, pink . All that's basically left in game are LTS players , which is even funnier. This means there is no or little revenue being generated, why should there be content ? Atari wasn't going to spend money on the game , quite possibly and probably Cryptic sold them a bill of goods that they could make STO profitible and sustainable. Atari kept them to their promises. Up until the point that PWI bought Cryptic , it seems they had a pretty free hand in how they ran the operation. Things have obviously changed.
What hasn't is the expectations of the LTS'ers. The reality that the good faith they offered Cryptic , ( in terms of money ) is not paying the dividend they expected. The thought that they are no better then the average paying player , is upsetting . ( as exhibited by multiple rage thread about getting more benefit for being an LTS'er ) What's aggravating even further is the stipend , that really puts them behind the content release. PWI plans to put out content at a faster pace then their stipend will cover leaving them at a disadvantage to actual paying customers. ( gasp ! they'll have to pay money if they hope to keep pace, this is a travesty ! I'm an LTS'er is the refrain ) Guess who PWI is most interested in as clients ? It's not the LTS if you need a hint. Hence the outrage , they ( LTS ) are no longer the favored child of Cryptic . They are suffering abandonment issues. Amusing stuff.
I stopped by the STO forums this morning to watch the ongoing campaign against the Devs through a variety of "Year of..." threads, only to find that the ban hammer has been swung hard, and many notable desenters have been sent packing either yesterday afternoon, or this morning.
And the damage control continues.
For those familiar with the desenters, some of them have names which have cropped up alot on the STO boards over the past 2 years. People like hurleybird, Alastor_Forthwright, Zeus01, etc.
Welcome to the ranks of the banned!
No worries though. SWTOR launches in T minus 29 Days!
I agree with you on your points of Cryptic promising Atari more than they could deliver. However I disagree on LTS are just whining. As an LTS I payed 299 up front to play forever, plus the price of the game itself. In doing that I gave up the free month that game with the box game. Now I knew that going in and had no issue with it. Where the issues started to arise is that a great deal of money was made initially off LTS and box sales. Cryptic then massively changed the game in the last beta before release and then failed to fix the inherant bugs or deliver content. Now I understand alot of that money went to pay off development costs, but we question why some of it wasn't reinvested in the game to fix the release day bugs and create more content so that monthly subscribers would continue their subscriptions. What we saw was that money being used to release a great deal of C-Store content rather than fix the game.
So alot of the animosity comes from that alone. Beyond that we are wondering why we as subber are being massively shorted compared to new F2P players. With the change to the dilithium economy a F2P player can max out to level 51 in a week and get more dilithium from his missions than we are being told we will be rewarded for our marks conversion. All I ask is just give us the same amount. I don't need any more than the F2P guy gets, just the same compensation as I've already done the content and can't go back and do it again.
So, who's looking forward to Cryptic's new "Neverwinter" title?
ROFLMAO
Nope. Not a snowball's chance in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks.
After the failure of STO, and the way Cryptic has treated the ongoing subscribers of STO, I'll never play another of their games again. Heck, I'd go back to a Funcom game, before I'd take another chance with Cryptic.
In fact, nothing describes the relationship between Cryptic and their customers, better than this:
What hasn't is the expectations of the LTS'ers. The reality that the good faith they offered Cryptic , ( in terms of money ) is not paying the dividend they expected. That attitude from some of the lifetime subscribers has been going on since the game launched, and Cryptic gave them the option to have blue forum names. While not all of them have shown such an attitude, far too many have. I am a lifetime subscriber to LotRO, and have never had the sense of entitlement that some of the STO lifetimer's have shown.

In doing that I gave up the free month that game with the box game. Now I knew that going in and had no issue with it.
Actually, that is incorrect; everyone, including those that purchased the lifetime subscriptions had that 30 day free period. This is how quite a few lifetime subscribers were able to get refunds (of the lifetime subscription costs) during the initial thirty days period; they correctly pointed out that their actual paid time hadn't started yet, since thirty days of free play was guaranteed on the box (or in the sales terms of the website for those digital orders), and Cryptic gave many of them refunds with no trouble. Those that had problems with Cryptic refunding their money were generally able to get the money back from either telling Cryptic's CSRs that they would do a reversal of charges or by just going ahead and doing so. Of course they were unable to get their money back for the copy of the game itself.

So, who's looking forward to Cryptic's new "Neverwinter" title?
Not I; as much as I love the Forgotten Realms setting, I intensely dislike the 4th Ed. ruleset that the game will be using. Additionally the things Jack said they were doing with the game weren't really appealing to me (breaking it up into instances, etc.). Granted, with PWI changing the focus of what they were doing (changing it from an O.M.G. to a Action MMO), some of that might have changed now. I am more looking forward to the just announced Pathfinder MMO.

I found it funny that almost a few months after STO released I found the CE in the bargain bin for $14, so I got it for the hell of it and played the 30 day trial (played maybe a max of 3-4 hours). Now with it being F2P, I tried logging in and it said "account error see this link for more inforomation" and I clicked it, and it said I need a retail copy of the game, and I went to enter the serial key and it said it's already in use, which should be to my account (dashboard even says "Star Trek Online - Cellectors Edition"). LOL
I may be wrong but I think your online time begins when you register your key and ends when the trial period is over (30 days later). How many hours you use (0 to 720) doesn't matter. Free play doesn't begin until mid-Feb. 2012.
