PVP

in Star Trek Online

Can someone tell me how pvp works in this game?  Game looks cool, but id only be interested in either:

A. An open pvp server where everyone can be killed by anyone

B. A faction server where factions are against one another anywhere in the game.

    There is only one server (sharded as necessary). PvP is on specific maps. No open PvP at this time.

    Can you give me more detail than that?  As in, how many maps are there and how many are pvp?  Is it open fvf in those areas,...or ffa?

    There are only a handful of PvP related maps between ground or space combat.  As far as I recall, there is no FFA PvP.  It's all team based.  Certain maps were geared toward CTF or resource gathering etc.  You can do Federation vs. Federation, Klingon vs. Klingon (most all their quests/missions are from PvP) or Klingon vs. Federation.

     

    If you are looking for a robust PvP environment, I would not recommend STO.  The PvP is lackluster with several unbalanced abilities, and Cryptic is not known for creating/supporting decent PvP in their games.

     

    I would suggest reading through the PvP forums on the STO website to get a better idea of what it is all about.  http://forums.startrekonline.com/forumdisplay.php?f=125

     

    I forgot to mention that PvP is also a que system, so you may have to wait anywhere from a few minutes to several hours (or never at all) to get into a match.  PvP is not very popular in STO in my experience.
