Why innovation?

Everyone always shouts out for Innovation in new MMOs. But there are so much things that are good ideas but are almost forgotten an never touched again.

What about:

-RVR 3 Fraktions FFA (DaoC)

-Full Entertainer/Crafting Professions (SWG Pre-NGE) <-- Think about all the girls you will make playing these.

-Crafting/Harvesting with different Qualities (SWG)

-Open World PVP ala X-Roads (WoW Vanilla)

-Aion PVP idea

-Epic Quests

-EQ1 Velious Faction System

-DaoC Classes

... There are by far more good ideas in old games that could use a revamp.

No matter how old these ideas are. Take them and do them RIGHT! Pretty easy.

Three factions for PvP's sake? Agreed.

Be able to play the game without actually having to participate in combat? Agreed. Sex of the player does not weigh into this.

A more diverse crafting system where resources, rather than finished products/gold, are the sought after materials in the world? Agreed. It could even start off very basic, just develop the system over time. Basics are all that is required to start.

Open world PvP? Very very cautious with this, certainly not FFA PvP. Separating PvP areas from PvE only areas is a good method.

NPC faction systems? Something that could be added later, but isn't a requirement for a game.

Classes, like DAoC, that provide different classes for each faction? Agreed.

Developers shouldn't be aiming to "innovate" or to earn a boat load of money. They should be aiming to make a quality game which would then be innovative and earn money all on it's own merits rather than a falsified marketing scheme. I feel that too much time would be spent on trying to do too much. Starting basic and building from a quality established structure would be better than aiming to make the perfect dream game.

The thing with innovation is that if you don't innovate by doing something different than your competitor, you're going to be directly compared to your competitor, so you better darn well do whatever it is you do better than the other guy.

That seems to be a problem for relatively new MMORPGs.
