You know MMOs are screwed when you have to chose between WoW with lightsabers and an Over hyped game (at least on this site).
In all seriouness I never said I didn't enjoy my experiance playing the game. I just didn't find it to be the genre changer people on this site claim it to be.
Wait till it solves world hunger and brings the kingdom of God to Earth, you'll see then.
I heard just by throwing the CD of GW2 in water that it will turn to wine...
I played the game and combat wise I wasn't as impressed as other people and the lack of raiding doesn't really help.
Well, I for one think that the 'lack' of raiding is a Godsent. If you REALLY want to raid over and over and over then I'd have to suggest you play one of those games. WoW is out there, SWToR will be out there, I'm sure there's more than enough to let you raid to your hearts content. I'm personally bored to pieces with raiding, I have real life job and a family with kids. When I want to relax a bit and play a game, I really don't need yet another job.
It looks like GW2 will not offer your traditional PvE raiding. Some big Dynamic Events might come somewhat close to what you're looking for but I doubt it will be your dream come true.
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...

I think lack of raiding show that dev are just lazy, I think Anet is trying too hard trying to be different that they forget the basics of MMOs, With the exception of running into random DE there is no reason not to use instant travel, no mounts or dualing in another big thing with me. Though they are getting rid of the crap that made me wanna break the CD of GW1. So that a big plus.
After watching their menifetsto thingy I look at Anet as the smug little bastard who even while I agree with on a lot of points I hate them just out of princelple. You can't tell me that everyone else is doing something wrong when said way is the most popular.
I just find it funny that this person is essentially saying they are impressed enough to buy it, BUT the lack of raiding (which is just content by another name) is a problem, then refuses to pay for additional content (which would satisfy their content desires)... Followed by a vague dissenting opinion about B2P which, at $40 to $50 each six months (if it will even be that, since GW2 won't be releasing full additional chapters of the game) is STILL less than a six month subscription at $15/mo. or even a discounted subscription bundle.
In other words, you'll pay for content, but not additional content, because content is impressive but not impressive enough, and b2p is bs because you have to pay for content.
In all seriousness though. Im really happy for the folks that are going to find GW2 their new MMO home. Its a rare thing to find. You gotta do a lot of shopping around. It looks like its going to be a perfect fit for a lot of gamers out there and that is always a good thing in my book!

Yeah I hate raiding...
Not surprisingly, most of the people that I have seen who take a strong anti-GW2 stance are players that enjoy raiding a lot.
I can see where you guys would feel let down by no raiding. But personally, I never liked it and different games will cater to different players.

Just NO.
If something is popular it doesn't suck. Sure you might not like Justin Beiber but the kid has talent, I thought GW1 was one of the worst games I have ever played, but I still see why its popular.

Doing things different = Lazy? Logical fallacy, does not compute... Error..eRroR....
Lazy Devs wouldn't go through the trouble Anet has, lazy devs stick to the tried and true with no deviation and release shallow games. STO.... that's lazy.
To SB fans, please stop making our demographic look bad.Stop invading threads that have nothing to do with sandboxes.
I hope he's right. Honestly I wasn't very impressed PvP wise by what I saw (not that it's bad, its just nothing special). If anything, I think Dragon's Nest has better PvP ... and it's a f2p Nexon game .

I certainly think that Jersey Shore is wrong, even though everybody knows who Snooki is.
There are plenty of things that enjoy high popularity that, while not without some merit, are not deserving to their scope of fame. Heck, that's half the argument behind people saying GW2 is overhyped in the first place.
So go ahead and hate ANet on principle for saying that something taken for granted as popular and necessary isn't exactly good for the genre. I mean that sincerely. I'll be too busy playing the only drat game on the market that caters to me and not you, for once.

To be perfectly honest I rarely raid(ed when wow sub runs out) in WoW. One of the reason TOR appeals to me more so then GW2 is because of the focus on story and what not. In all honesty if TOR wasn't coming out GW2 would be my go to game.

Yeah probably same here just the other way around (GW2 over TOR).
I never liked that TOR focused on story because I always felt that was the domain of singleplayer games. Heck, I'm not even that hot on GW2's personal story.
Having started MMORPGs with UO, I like MMORPGs for the player interaction and the virtual world. I feel like GW2 has more features that cater to my leanings with its dynamic events and WvWvW PvP.

I think the lack of raiding is the biggest freaking reason why alot of gamers like me will be making GW2 their MMO of choice.
Its ok that you like repetition and blandness in your games. Its ok that you dont like feeling like a hero in a game. Its ok that you want to have your hand held and told what to do for 85 levels in a game. Its ok that you want to play with 19+ other masochist, basement dwelling E-Nerds in a game. Its ok that you enjoy travelling 50% of your time while in game.
What isnt ok is you come here telling millions of others that your style og gameplay is the only way MMO developers should make games.
its been 11 years and counting of themepark, hand holding, huge raiding, dominance. Lets give the genre a twist and throw in some sandbox elements in the genre and shake up the whole genre with removing industry specific standards and let GW2 try their thing out for a few years.
I will wager you that within 2-5 years after GW2's release you will see alot more MMO's forgoing that whole EQ/WoW/Rift/ToR standard and moving to a more GW2 style of gameplay. And for me that is a damn good thing because this whole clone of a clone of a clone got old 3 or 4 years ago.

Did you know GW2 has a personal, voiced, branching story with pivotal, world-changing choices to make, too? This just hasn't been shown in detail due to spoilers and limited demo times, but there are some videos of people exploring it on the intertubes.

Yes but for Me Star Wars>Another fantasy story, I was one of the few who actually read the major quest lines in EQII and WoW.
Lookin pretty bitchin. I can't wait. Sure it might be overhyped, but they've actually backed up most of the hype. I already know I'm buying it on release, I feel this could be my new perm mmo for a long time should it actually live up to at least half the hype. If Paul Barnett was making blogs and updates about the game, it would be awesome. That guy knows how to hype.
You know what, I don't hat WoW, any more than I hate Jersey Shore. I just don't like them and would rather watch/play something else.
What annoys me is when someone tries to make something I WOULD like to play/watch, and folks come by to tell me how it's destined to fail and/or can't be very good because it doesn't try hard enough to emulate Jersey Shore/WoW. Because if that was what I wanted to play, or watch, i'd already be doing it!
Also, your goalposts seem to be shifting a bit. You said the emphasis on story is why you liked SWOTR, but clearly it isn't merely that, but that it's not fantasy. If you were more clear in your responses and rationale, we wouldn't have to waste time telling you useless, non-applicable factoids.
It's not that, it's using Justing Bieber to try and "prove" a point in an mmorpg discussion about GW2 PVP is just sad
Hating WoW on this site is like hating Justin Bieber, its the hip thing to do.

Dude and you don't think that ANet knows this too?
Just wait until they reveal that the final class is The Situation.

That's about as logical as saying, "You can't tell me that Brittney Spears isn't the best singer in the world based on how popular she's been and how much money she's made. She's OBVIOUSLY the best singer in the world."
Just NO.

I think you need to be stripped of you pony avatar lol
.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
"I think lack of raiding show that dev are just lazy" with this I could not disagree more, I find that Raiding in general is used as an end game cop out by most companies, providing meaningfull high end content is very rare indeed.
Yeah I hate raiding...
Not surprisingly, most of the people that I have seen who take a strong anti-GW2 stance are players that enjoy raiding a lot.
I can see where you guys would feel let down by no raiding. But personally, I never liked it and different games will cater to different players.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
If something is popular it doesn't suck. Sure you might not like Justin Beiber but the kid has talent, I thought GW1 was one of the worst games I have ever played, but I still see why its popular.
Doing things different = Lazy? Logical fallacy, does not compute... Error..eRroR....
Lazy Devs wouldn't go through the trouble Anet has, lazy devs stick to the tried and true with no deviation and release shallow games. STO.... that's lazy.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Everything you need to know about Elder Scrolls Online

Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.

Dude and you don't think that ANet knows this too?
Just wait until they reveal that the final class is The Situation.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
I applaud Arenanet for sticking to their guns and making the game they want and not one for the noisey few.
