Is this one of those games where you don't really make your own character, you only get to choose between the prebuilt ones available?

 

I only ask because all the gameplay footage seems to be of the three from the trailer.

No, they stated they were just using these characters for demo purposes.

Apparently there will be full customisation.

What we know so far: Two factions (Exile, Dominon), three races (Human, Aurin, Granok), three class (ESPer, Spellslinger, Warrior) and four classes (Soldier, Explorer, Scientist, Settler).

You get to pick between them all (although races are reportedly faction-locked, and we've only seen the Exile faction so far)

Zap is absolutely correct. Let me organize it a bit, if I may, Zap.

 

Factions: Exile, Dominion^{(Reported as being added in later)}

Races(Under Exile Only?): Human, Aurin_{(Bunny-People)}, Granok_{(Rock-People)}

Classes: Esper, Spellslinger, Warrior

Paths: Soldier, Scientist, Explorer, Settler

Its also reported that there will be tons of costume/gear customization: M/F outfits, dyes, etc.

From some of the further video footage/articles we're collecting over at http://www.wildstar-central.com/ we've "discovered" that  Human will be available both the Exile and Dominion factions.
