NPC Crew available?

Greetings!

I would like to give this game a try, and I would also love to have a real player based crew on my prospective vessel!

BUT for those times where friends are not online, or busy captaining their OWN ships, can I have a NPC crew to hang on to until I can get some player crew members in Potco?
