So excited to see this finally on the game list here at MMORPG. I have been keeping an eye out for news of this game for several years now. CCP give us some news!

Can't wait. Fantasy, sci-fi and heroes have been done to death. Need moar horror IMO. TSW and WoD both have big promise to do something different.
This is really based on Vampire the Masquerade. It's not really about WoD, right?

? VtM is apart of WoD, for it to be about VtM its about WoD. Actually its some kind of combination of VtM and VtR. They said they would not sacrifice good game play/mechanics to be accurate to one or the other in terms of rule sets, story, etc. We don't know anything beyond that.

I don't think you're understanding me. When I say Vampire the Masquerade....I mean Redemption and Bloodlines.....the GAMES. I'm not talking about the LARP Masquerade. The games were made by Troika, a company that no longer exists. I don't think WoD (being done by CCP) has anything to do with the games by Troika, but I was asking if that gathering had to do with the games by Troika.....

So very true. I'm beyond tired of the fantasy and sci-fi genres. I actually only recently played VtM: Bloodlines, and was really blown away by almost everything about the game and setting. I'm really looking forward to playing with it on a larger scale.
I'm actually surprised that there's not more interest in this game on this site. The only thing that really dampens my enthusiasm about this game is that CCP has already said there'll be MTs.
The gathering has to do with the game created by White Wolf 20 years ago by which the Troika games were based and of which World of Darkness is based. So, by extension, the gathering is about all of them.
Ahhhh....thank you! Information I didn't have before.

First, finally! lol.
Yes, WoD is based on the Vampire: The Masquerade (V:tm) pencil & paper ruleset by White Wolf. There was much assumption (myself included) that the newer :The Requiem system was going to be used but this was put to rest about a year ago.
World of Darkness is the overall world setting in which Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, etc., were played in.

Who's going to make a Cyberpunk MMO?
I just finished my first play through of Bloodlines a few days ago as well. Damned impressive. Defintely near the top of the heap as far as RPGs go, in my books. I hope CCP was paying attention because Troika had something pretty special there.
Now start rounding up the mods and playing through those, quite a few that make it harder/better and add in a lot more stuff.
Bloodlines really makes you wonder about if this one could even show a little bit of why it's so universally loved. Even by people like me who really doesn't care about vampires and the like at ALL.
The Underworld movie franchise was also based on the White Wolf games. Let's hope CCP's efforts aren't as loosely interpreted. I don't want to see mythic and powerful creatures some thousands of years old with incredible powers..resorting to gunplay and kung-fu. Unless they are plain old human hunter-types.
Amen to that sister. Preach on!
I am very news starved on this game!

Not quite what you were asking but... I remember playing the first pc game for Vampire. Hmm, Troika did Bloodlines if I remember correctly and Nihilistic Studios did Redemption.
There was another site that I had signed up for that had some limited info about the WoD mmo several years back. I kept checking back but it didn't have any new updates for a long time. So I had begun to dispair that the WoD mmo was just rumors. Like I said preiously, I have been watching the game list here for several years praying it would actually show up! So glad to see others just as excited about this!
WoD is a setting that requires the players put up semi-interesting self-plotlines. This won't be a game for alot of people. They have posted that it will have the elements that will result in turning alot of people off. IE. Your actions have consquences, like final death (Permadeath). It really comes down to what people find intersting and how much of a grind it is to get established characters. With the online world of griefers and general pain in the rear people that exist out there and a possibilty of permadeath. People will need ot be careful.
World of Darkness: Vampire the Masquerade is meant to be a dark place with the possibility of character lose. If the game just turns out to be a WoW clone then it will turn off the fan base. if it turns out to be too difficult to stay alive. That will also turn off the fan base. Vampires are suppose to be able to fight and even fall into torpor if too much damage is taken. But, in the end it should take a conscious decision to actually destroy another players character. Unless of course that torpor happens in a burning building.
The advancement in the system should be similar to Trioka's bloodlines. You should gain experience that you spend across your character as you want. The problem I see occuring is they will want to use the Requiem system of blood potency instead of the generation system of Vampire the Masquerade. Otherwise the only way to do this game would be a completely random generation or start everyone as a ghoul/mortal and only have them embraced by player characters or GM characters. Which, could lead to an ERP game that might not be very appropriate for very many people.
This brings the problem if the game has to be adult only. It a game based around seduction and dark themes. That just won't be very appropriate for a child. I couldn't possibly see this reaching the counter without that high a rating.
All you described there as being drawbacks for most of the people is actually exactly what I expect from WoD to be, including the game being rated M
If it is done exactly with the flavor fo the pen and paper games then it will be good. If it caters to those people that cannot stand to lose their character then it will be terrible.
CCP has played this one so close to the vest it's even a running joke inside the company whether or not there's really a game under development.
