a little question about buddy key

in Final Fantasy XIV

I bought a collector edition, and I get 1 another buddy key. I'd like to know if this buddy key is the same as the original key ? when this game goes pay to play, if my friend used this buddy key, does he have to buy this game ?

    No the buddy key is the same as a complete standard edition retail key of the game. He will only have to pay the sub fees, if that day ever comes.
