I don't think people want innovation. They want more of what the genre's potential seemed to be heading towards from its inception. Greater realism, greater choice, greater freedom. More faithfully produced worlds with greater amounts of people in them. I know when I started playing MMO's I looked forward to how much more amazing they'd be in the future. Little did I know that instancing, zoning, cash-shops and the simplifying or outright removal of basic game mechanics would be the norm. I don't want innovation, I want MMORPG's to have advanced as the technology of the machines we play them on advanced. Other than graphically, that simply hasn't been the case.
