We don't need a "re-review"

thafireballthafireball Member Posts: 200

It appears the articles about "re-reviews" are just filler.  Most people who have ever played the game will know exactly what is going on or whether or not they like it.  Doing a second, third or even fourth review of old games or ones that were just reviewed a month ago seems to me like there is a lack of creativity going on.  Without stepping on too many toes, please oh please try to come up with a different type of article to read.  Hell..make one about rumours and stuff.  Anything other than ANOTHER  review of the same old game thats been reviewed several times.

It doesn't hurt anything. One of my favorite parts of PC Gamer magazine are the articles about throwback games and computer specs.

They have hundreds of games they could re-review, but htey seem to stick to certain ones... Are they paid to re-review these games?

Mumorpegers are evolving games. That alone completely merrits re-reviews already.

Mumorpegers are also long running games with many people jumping in way after launch. That merrits re-reviews a little extra on top.

So yeah, keep up the re-reviews.

Seems like a little nitpicky to complain about. I enjoyed the DAoC Re-Review and am probably going to jump back into it for a month. Keep your "We" to yourself. :)

Please DO make re-reviews!!! Those of who wants to keep track of several games really benefit from re-reviews. I for one can't bother to look around for old patch notes and what has been implemented since my last visit. I rely completely on these re-reviews.

Others may simply like to read and see whether the game has improved.

I'm sorry, but to be bugged by this is beyond me. You aren't forced to read any them.

I like re-reviews. Most MMOs are very different two or three years down the road from when they were released. A re-review gives me an idea of how the game is today.

For example, WOW is a very different experience now than it was the first couple years. I played for a year after release and then recently returned. Money flowed easier, there were new races and classes, new crafting skills, an achievement system, countless mounts, much lower reqs for a lot of things. It was a very different game.

A re-review gives a person an idea not jsut of the changes that were made, but also the good and the bad of them.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

I like re-reviews. I've quit MMOs many times due to bugs, grinding, content and other similar things but I've found the core game interesting in some of them. Re-reviews keep me updated on whats going on so I dont see a reason to discard them.

The problem is that MMOs are released incomplete these days so either we get re-reviews or reviewers wait to release reviews. So, your job is to go out and convince the reviewers to wait to do their reviews. Let us know how that works out for ya.

But who is going to do the re-review of the re-review when its time to re-review again. Oh I know why not comment on a collective set of patches instead that shows new content, oh no wait that would take some actual journalism.

On a second note why is someone trying to revive a necro game thats in severe cashcow and sleep mode.

Is there anything anywhere that people won't complain about? Seriously...if you don't like re-reviews dont read it. Pretty simple concept.

Maybe some might want to go check out the game and play it ?

I actually think they have the potential to be better than the initial reviews many writers do.  Considering the rereviews tend to be by writers that have actually experienced a large portion of the game and had the time to really weigh the overall gameplay, content and entertainment  value.  I would much rather see these rereviews than someone handing out a review after only playing the game for a few hours or days and handing out a review that grossly mischaracterizes or poorly grades the game as a whole.

As has been proven to happen by many writers when they reviewed games such as Age of Conan, Aion, Warhammer, DCUO, etc.  No harm in taking another look at a game after it has been out for some time to see how it is faring and if it may be worth checking out.  Hell, for some it could be their first introduction into the game.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Quite a few MMOs need a re-review, especially after an expansion or new content being added. You might be one to close their mind and be unaware that things can change, but the rest of us aren't. :) Bring on the re-reviews!

Totally. DAoC released awfully those 10 years ago.  They needed a re-review because it took that long to get it in a stable state. They're trying to draw attention and drive up subscriptions.

Or it's for people who have played it to take another look, but I like the first one better.

The purpose of the re-review isn't to let the people currently playing it know what's going on...this post seems like you don't understand the point of a re-review at all.

    Some reasons for re-reviews:

    1. Other people are wondering how the game has evolved in the last DECADE.

    2. There could be improvments to the AI, graphics, game mechanics, banking, addition of player housing, auction housing, etc. etc.

    3.  Let people know how a new design team has changed or improved the game.

    4. New content and areas and how they measure up to current games.

    and on and on...

Widen your scope of understanding :)

I see no problem at all with re-reviews op, infact I rather enjoy reading them.  Todays Daoc re-review inspired me to re-try the game. Maybe you should have titled this thread "I don't need a "re-review"? That's your opinion, fair enough. Looks like you have been out-voted.

I like the idea of re-reviews. I like to see how the older games are holding up in the author's eyes. Keep them comming.

    Hi guys,

We generally try to re-visit games every six months or so. If we were re-reviewing a Madden game or something that would not make as much sense, however, as other readers have noted MMOs are evolving beasts and it's important to check back in with them to see how they've improved (or somehow gotten worse, etc.).

With that said, your feedback is still appreciated and I'm going to go ahead and move this to Site Suggestions.

I didn't read it. I dont find qa reason to take a look back on a game that old unless its a pure nostalgia thread. I loved DAoC but I already know I'm not going to go back and play the game so whats the point in reading it? It may be helpful for some but I see it more of a filler article than anything andshouldnt be posted on the main section of the site where people are looking for pertinent news about current/new mmo's

I highlighted the feint glimpse of the dawning of understanding. Keep it up and expand on that.
