I want to post in the official forums but I don't want to enter my key just yet because I still won't be able to play for at least a few weeks.
Just wait until you are ready. I am not sure about Rift, but with every other game I have played, when you create an account and buy the game, your free time starts then.
Then use your key when you are ready to start playing, last time I used a key the benefits took effect at that moment.
