Final Fantasy XIV: Producer's Letter & New Concept Designs

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Final Fantasy XIV Producer & Director Naoki Yoshida has posted this week's Producer's Letter. Yoshida talks about the 1.5b patch, flying in airplanes and throws in a couple of new concept shots that showcase some of the upcoming new items that have been promised.

As some of you may have guessed, both of these are designs for some of the new items I spoke of in my last letter. As stated in the last Players' Poll, we are currently working on class-specific equipment. Though the above designs are finalized, we still have to tailor and model them to each of the five races. So while I can't promise an immediate release, I promise that the wheels of progress are in motion.

For those of you worried that your favorite class or current rank won't be represented—don't be. We're working on more than just high-level gear, and plan to gradually release items for various ranks over the course of the next year. Keep a keen eye fixed on coming patch notes to see if your class is next!

I think the reason any one is still playing is because there is no monthly fee.

"As with the first, the turnout was overwhelming, with tens of thousands of users taking the time to make their voices heard."

That's a good number. So XIV is still going strong then huh?

To be honest the population seems steady with no real signs of it dropping off any time soon... (It took a big hit when WoW: Cata came out but thats about it.)

Its the only reason I have it installed. Even  with no fee I don't play. I want to play but after a few min I log.

The game population is steady because the game keeps nerds in a state of nostalgia.

I have to say though changing desighns is a good step now lets make it feel adventurous!

Well for myself if I wasn't playing FFXIV I'd be on these forums even more than I already am. Either they will fix the game or when they start to charge I'll sit on my hands or play console games until SW:TOR, TERA, GW2, or ArcheAge come along. I'll probably try them all and hopefully one of them will be to my liking.  -_-

I don't know too many people that enjoy looking at Chocobos and airships you can't ride. Being that those and Moogles are the only things "Final Fantasy" in the game there's not really any thing to "Nostalgia" over.

I looked at those two armour sets and to be honest ,they look ugly. The all spikey look,is more like a halloween costume. The Mage outfit just looks plain ugly.

This game just has an awful look to it that really makes me wonder if any of the orginal FFXI staff has anything to do with this game. The cities look nice, but Square wasted their time with a new game and still left it as limited as the original FFXI,example linear navigation in no jumping over rocks or entering water.

It really amazes me that Square spent all that time and money to have the exact same limited game with just a better texture size/quality.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The armor sets are classic FF Dark Knight and Black Mage designs.

  • So I take it the game still has no meaningful content. Last producer letter I saw was they are adding !'s and ?'s for quests. It'll ruin it for me an I definitely won't be coming back in that case. I'm trying to wait it out for FFXIV.

The only thing they mention in this letter are side quests as far as content goes.

Ummm wouldn't they most likely have an option to turn off/on any of those symbols like most games do???  I never understood why people get so mad at features they can simply turn off in game.
