Sounds like a silly question, but I reallt don't know. And no, I don't mean Damage Per Second. However, Damage Per Second is the only un-abbreviated abreviation I could find searching the web - Someone please tell me, it's not cool to not know things like this.

It would help a lot if you told us where you've seen it, and what kind of application you were using it in. As it stands now your question is very vague.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Well I've seen it so often around these forums... I've heard it brought up over a download issue.
well if you don't mean damage per second, you mean < ah forget it, just look it up on google, I don't need more warnings from this site >

Now what exactly that is, I have no idea. But at least you have something to start with.
In a typical MMORPG game, DPS usually means for Damage Per Second that your characer takes from monsters or
damage that moster takes from you. Usually, in MMO, each class have different attacking speed (IE: slow Swinging / Fast swinging) as well as type of the offensive weapons or items your charater wields.
So, maybe AXE might have a huge damage by PER HIT basis but probably AXE is one of the most slowest weapon to use.
On the other hand, a dagger character might have a very low weapon base damage but however swings weapon 3X faster then an Axe.
In these case, how can you determine which weapon can give you better damage over certain timespand can be calculated by
using "DPS" system. Which ever wapon that has Higher DPS are usually better, unless there are unknown factors.
Hope this helps.
You've missed some of the Parent Post mate Try reading it again :P Thanks anyway
It entirely depends on the context and where you are at.
On Social networking sites - Double Post Syndrome
In the Porn Industry- Double Penetration Shot
On gaming sites - Damage Per second
Other contexts commonly used include Department of Public Safety, and various vulgar slurs that I will not go into detail on this site.
That sounds about right. Thank you everyone else for replying.
Oh, how very interesting. Didn't really need to know that but meh, it helps.
I suggest you educate yourself further on the above statement and do some "research".

Apparently Deviliscious has already done her "research".
