What is there in terms of character progression once you get to L20?

Nah, some games are just bad ;)

Anyway, OP. I'm glad you are enjoying the game. The nice thing about it is that you can take an extended break from it at any time and not feel punished for it.

Well, I can do that with a sub game I guess by just not renewing for a bit... but I get what your saying.

The weird thing is probably would be happy to pay £10/ month for this game... double bonus thats its free to access(and cost £15 all in for a staggering amount of content).

It's also shown me why Arenanet have fanbois that have such faith in them for GW2... I get it now. These guys just build an awesome game.

Glad you liked the game. As you said. It's mandatory that you forget previous MMO experiences when approaching GW. I know that at first time i didn't. When i bought Guild Wars i thought that i wanted something different. But tbh, i lied to myself. Deep inside me i wanted a WoW clone with prettier graphics and when i tried GW1, i had a genre shock. And it wasn't because of the instancing or lack of jump. Gear progression, leveling, raiding, hard trinity - the pillars of WoW gameplay,  were either unimportant or completely left out. I was like - wtf !!?.  Suffice to say, my journey in Tyria wasn't very long. Two years later when i got cooled off from WoW and MMOs in general, i decided to give it a try again. But unlike the last time i approached it with a clean sate in my head. And this time i actually liked it, and i had a really good time playing GW for quite a bit of time. I still keep it on my computer for quick PvP fix or a rerun of Factions campaign.

As i said, its a great game. And it gets better and better as you move through  the campaings because, as Arenanet and GW grew more popular, they had more money and staff to invest in game making.  Actually, GW1 is one of the very rare MMOs in which every expansion has higher production values than the previous one.

An essential part of optimising your Character is having a few good builds to choose from . There are many tested builds to choose from at http://www.gwpvx.com/PvX_wiki . At this stage you should stick with builds that don't rely heavily on PvE only skills . Those skills will come as you progress through the campaigns .

Since the release of 'Nightfall' Heroes have played a huge role in the game . They can be far more effective than Henchies . Even at lvl 15 you can collect a few Heroes in 'Nightfall' & 'Eye of the North' with little effort .

    A couple more sights with lots of info : http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page , http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

By the way , if you want to get to lvl 20 fast then 'Factions' is a good place to be .

Don't really care about levelling fast tbh, the journey in this game is good enough in terms of content to just enjoy getting there (and beyond). I will bear that in mind for my next alt though :)

    Thanks for the links!

i wouldnt call myself a completionest.... but for the first year i found myself addicted to grabbing EVERY SKILL and experimenting with every build i could think of.

the second year i became addicted with PVP and the underworld and fissure of woe,

the third year i became addicted to unlocking all the heros and getting them the "uber" gear. like all greens and ect....

this year ive spent title hunting.

god now that i think about it ive spent so much time in GW. but the funny thing is, it doesnt feel like it.
