Due to the nature of the setting which you start your character, it would be a challenge to put a comical spin on characters. I amnot saying it's impossible, but at this stage I think the current souls are set in stone. I think this would make a great future soul. One to get within the game by doing a really funny questline that unlocks the soul.
The soul could be a Kung Fu Panda knock off for the Guardians and a Voltron robot flavored type for the Defiance. Would be very fun to have these souls and they would add a little comedy and lighter mood to the darker world.
I didn't know that WOW-style parodies had become an essential ingredient of MMOs. WOW's latest expansions includes a Plants vs. Zombies parody as well as a double rainbow generator and an orc on a chopper cruising with some hot human babe and punching Deathwing in the face. That all fits well in WOW because it's an MMO that has never taken itself very seriously where comedy and funny gnomes and goblins have been part of the landscape all along.
Otoh, all the techno-fantasy self deprecating humor and pop culture references can also become tiresome and detract from the immersion I expect from more serious or darker MMO titles.
Shrug... I enjoyed the killer rabbit in Asheron's Call years ago but also enjoyed the immersion of more serious titles like DAoC, WAR, LOTR (although the last one does have hobbity humour.)
Variety is a great thing... I don't expect all the things I enjoy in one MMO to be there in a new one. I enjoy the differences.

Yeah the races in this game are kind of dull. Character customaztion is one of Rifts weak points that hopefully they will make better before launch. Most characters look very similar and at lower levels are all wearing the same gear, and the dye's you can get dont actually dye very much
I love the game but this is deffinitely one area they have to improve on.

I do think they could do with more diverse playable races though...
I'd love some sort of monster play in which you could play the rift monsters.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
I agree. Not necessarily halflings, but I like some more odd races in Rift too.

I HATE "funny" or "cutesy" player races. PUKE. No thanks. Anime characters can kiss my ass!!
Rift FTW!
You can make some pretty funny looking dwarves.

Rift has some of the most awesome-looking dwarves i've seen.. so maybe, if you roll a dwarf and teach it to tell jokes it'll be funny.
Also, the elves in rift look totally retarted, their ears are bigger than their feet. If you think retarted = funny, you can try one of those
