May Cancel PS3 to order PC ver [UPDATE]

Excalaber2Excalaber2 Member UncommonPosts: 360

Since SOE has lied about the Jan 4th round of beta invites, I don't have my chance to see DCUO on the PS3.  So, this will probably cause me to switch to PC now simply because I can't confirm that the population would be sufficient and that PUGs wouldn't be horrible.  Is there anyone on the PS3 version right now that can tell us the approximate queue times for Legends PvP, Alerts, and Arena PvP?  I really don't want to be stuck paying 60 bucks and find out it becomes a ghost town on PS3 where PC users keep it stable.  Knowing Sony, they won't have anything to offer in the future if they had to shut down PS3 servers for any reason (i.e. no free game code for PC version or anything like that would be offered).

Anyone else in the same boat as I am?  Possibly switching from PS3 version over to PC now?

*UPDATE*

Well, I finally got to try the PS3 beta thanks to a generous person giving me a key.  I realized that it's just NOT WORTH the risk for me right now.  The problem with the UI is that it takes forever to get to the menus you want and the powers are like L2+square for power 1....L2+Triangle for power 2...but R2+Triangle for soder.  I see what they did there (left vs. right 4), but when I was getting ganked by 2 villains I simply couldn't get the controls down to defend myself.  In all fairness they have the same "handicap"....but I was really enjoying the PC version.  It was just that I had potential to play with a few friends on the PS3.  Now, I will have to be a lone wolf and find some new people to play with....but let me tell you I feel a sigh of relief not worrying about the PS3 population or PUGS and stuff like that.  Thanks all for your feedback!  I'm hoping this might help anyone else on the fence.

Beta population tells you NOTHING about launch population.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

the betas are packed right now but that doesnt translate to live populations, but if i had to guess then i would assume that the pc crowd will hang with theere version longer than the ps3 crowd. I sent you a private message, i suggest you check it out soon!

Seriously, no one has any clue.

There hasn't been enough MMO's on the consoles to even begin to make an educated prediction about the population and longevity of this game.

We guess that console gamers will have different expecations of the game, but maybe not?  It's quite possible that console gamers might stick around longer, but be more casual.  It's also possible that console gamers will be flighty and drop the game once it gets a little boring.  Who knows?

The majority of what ive seen in terms of peoples opinions is that DCOU will fail on PS3, as most players will opt for the PC version. Since PC and PS3 people dont play together, the PS3 game will be kinda empty.

This is just what I have been reading.

Tough call.  The PC version has been GUTTED to make it fit consule type controls.  Most agree the game is so crippled by that to make the PC version just awful to play.  VERY limited.  No fun.

Im not sure how that translates to consule play.

Haha I would take any input from a guy who spends more time trolling the boards for a game than actually playing with a grain salt.  Wink wink danno.

I have been playing the PS3 and PC beta with some friends and many are torn on the same issue.  The grouping and social aspects of the PC version are definitely more solid.  On PS3 you only have voice chat once in groups and in guilds.  There is a large petition to get proximity voice chat for the PS3 version which would definitely increase the social aspect.

I like the PS3 version better honestly because I am more of a console gamer than a PC gamer.  Not because I am not good at PC, but because I like to hang out with my family in the living room playing on a TV more than being at my desk and anti social.

I still question the life of the PS3 version with a subscription and no mixed servers.  I have decided I will play on PS3 or not at all, but the PS3 version without proximity chat, a lifetime sub, and what seems like no tie in with existing station accounts (where I already have 300$ worth of station cash for PoxNora and Magic the Gathering Tactics) it just feels like a sloppy implementation.

I think they will have ot add proximity chat, and make it F2P on console at least, and mix the servers for it to have real longevity.  I predict eventually having one PvE and one PvP server on console.

The game will be great for at least the first few months which is usually when a MMO of todays lame standards wears off on me anyway.  They just aren't fun with the current style after a few months IMO.

So in short, PS3 version I think will be good for the first few months, but without merging with PC servers (which I don't think we will see) and proximity chat and a subscription it is doomed to failure.

I would go with the PC version personally, I don't see the PS3 version having any longativity or serious players.

Hey guys thanks for the great responses.  I guess the information I seek about this is just not available until launch day.  Even an employee at SOE probably can't answer this question.  I think I'm taking a huge risk getting the PS3 version.  You all made pretty good points.  I do agree that the PS3 version can be exciting with a big influx at first...but after the first month who knows.

I'm still really on the fence though.  It's a very tough choice not knowing the variables.

I think I may end up waiting and picking it up on Ps3 when it either:

    a) Goes free to play, or

    b) Servers merge

That is if I am not playing other more fun things at that time.

I was stumped  but decided to preorder  the PC version  and go with that ( i am also using a xbox 360 controller )  i like the options  can have  m/k  and controller  best of both worlds

After I  found out that PS3 and PC where not on the same server I said forget  it, I 'm still in the fence to buy the  game at all, I feel most superhero games are more console base and most players will use a controller for this anyways.

I have a lifetime for champions and wished it was on the console, since PS3 was dead and I see most players going to PC version I can see it will be dead and left with a few people and a few very young gamers so I may end up passing if I do get it will be the PC, but I hate using controller on a PC game, which I know I don't have to but it will suck with it out is my point.

I guess I will see what I decided, with earthrise, xyson and rift coming I may pass on DCUO . Have fun folks ..
