Darkfall or FF11?

Which presents the most amount of immersion through its challenge?

Depends on your definition of challenge. But out of those 2 i think ff11 is more chalengeing, and the better game all around. - the pvp part

EQ: You want to raid 5 hours each night?

    FFXIV: You like to grind?

    Darkfall: What manual?

Monster Hunter Frontier Online on a Proxy: You know some Japanese right?

    Collector's editions are scams.

    Darkfall by faaarrrrrrrr . ..

I haven't played FF11 but I imagine that it is not twich-based and all of my gear is not on the line when I fight so I am about 99% sure that I will never get an adrenaline rush from it. When the heart is pounding, especially in a game that depends on your twich skills and there is something you really dont want to lose when you die, it is much harder to play.

Darkfall will bring an adrenaline rush to even the most pro player and it never gets any easier the more that you play (it actually gets harder when your character is developed and there are other developed toons to compete with so you really have to duel for months or else you will probably be taken down continuously by lower level players). If there is something very valuable on the line (something that you spend a month working on and that you could lose from making a simple split-second mistake) than you tend to get shaky hands and sweaty, especially since the combat is so fast-paced.

Unless I am harvesting or crafting which is a semiAFK activity, I cannot get up to go to the bathroom or eat food on the side because the game is so engaging and there is possible danger around every corner.

I use vent in every game. No other game have I ever played do peoples voices falter and shake during intense situations like they do in Darkfall. Listen to the voices of the commanders barking orders in the topdog youtube flicks. They are shaking half of the time and you can tell . .. thats because one simple error can be the end of your gaming session.

On a typical night when I play Darkfall, if I die it means that my night is over pretty much . ... my guess is that FF11 is nothing like that at all.

Also, Darkfall is the only game that I play where I have to turn off my music to pay attention to every sound beause its crucial.

Another thing . .. do people chat during PVE in FF11? Unless you are waiting for mob spawns or hiding in a safe spot (that you think is safe anyway, but there are no real safe spots) or doing a semiAFK activity like harvesting or crafting, you pretty much will never have the time to chat because the game is too engaging. When noobies log into the game and they see people discussing things in trade chat, race chat, race alliance chat, . .. 99% of those people are either standing around doing nothing or harvesting and crafting . .. maybe organizing their bank but you cannot really chat while playing. Party chat is pretty much never ever used because its too hard to type while playing.

While I totally get why some people will enjoy this, I have to ask 'what happens if you have a lag spike (gogo AT&T! ><)? or a power outage?'

I think I'd rage, not because I 'lost' item/exp/time but because I lost it by circumstances which was outside my control.

I can definitely see the andreline rush though. :)

You stay in the game for about 2 minutes after you crash or disconnect so that people are unable to exploit being able to log off. Unless you crashing in a safer spot or have a party to loot your stuff if you die, you will lose everything that you are carrying.

edit: people have lost ships and player cities to crashing . ... lol I am sure that they raged hard! I know that I would.

My internet is terrible though and I dont have a problem (much). The game is actually a pain in the ass to get it working the first time, but once logged in, it seems to be the most stable game that I own besides Guildwars. Since harvesting and crafting build a tougher character, I normally will play my other very stable game on a 2nd monitor and can only do this with these games. Actually I have an alt in Darkfall for easier trading, and I am able to run my main character on top of my alt with guildwars all running at the same time on a dual core.

Again I havent played FF11 but things like floating numbers, names, exclamation points, question marks, glowing red that indicates a dangerous mob, etc. all kill the immersion for me and I will probably not even bother reading the quests and hit the skip button if any movies come on . ... it usually turns into zombie-mode where I absently am following some stupid glowing icons in a mini map or by what the quest-tracker says.

I want to log in and pretend that I am my character at time and that it is real. I cannot do that if all I am doing is using a quest-tracker . ... does FF11 have a quest-tracker?

I also cant do that when I am controlling a cartoon character . ... fighting pokemon!! this is real man! heh

sounds like a bag of crap to me.

A MMO you can't socialise in.

A MMO where you say yourself one wrong move makes you not want to play it.

A MMO where they wasted money on music to have people required to turn it off.

Sounds like some real inteligent devs at Adventurine.

I can smoke, eat a sandwish, pick my nose, watch TV and scratch my ass and play FFXI at the same time.

not really but you can nearly play with one hand. no need to use a mouse.

A MMO you can't socialise in. (Why not? hell, its the basic thing you NEED to survive in this game, else everyone and their grandmothers will KOS you, would it not be nice to have some friends to watch your back?)

A MMO where you say yourself one wrong move makes you not want to play it. (thats not what he said, and yes, one wrong move and you ragequit for about 2 hours then you go back to your stash of armor and weapons and plot your revenge 10x over)

A MMO where they wasted money on music to have people required to turn it off. (i think he means the music on itunes you play on the background. i think the ingame music if well balanced does not matter)

Sounds like some real inteligent devs at Adventurine.

oh and P.S. EveOnline has that, (except the sound thing, we joke all the time saying, eve has sound?) but in space. plus more. when you are escorting a freighter full with trillions worth of blueprints and supplies the fleet commander has alot riding on his back, not only the survival of his mates, but the survival of that freighter.

If you get that much adrenaline from a video game then you must pass out driving fast in a car.  I've played both games, FFXI a lot more than Darkfall, and both are good games.  FFXI can be very challenging.  It has some of the toughest PVE boss fights I've participated in.  Darkfall was fun but is a gank fest at the early levels.  Lots of lost time in the beginning due to immature players that like to harrass people.  Both are challenging just in different ways.

FFXI I would think. You reallly need to know your class in and out in order to succeed in the game.

    playing: Dragon Age
    Waiting: for FF14, Mass Effect
