You can earn a lot of money with profs. All gathering prof sell quite well and if you want more money on the longer run you can start leveling Enchanting (will cost you a lot to level though) or alchemy.

Since you haven't leveled them from the start it will take quite some time to level them though and therewith a long time before you'll start earning money. You have to grind for stuff in lower levels and even when the mobs there are no challenge anymore, it'll still be a long time before you'll start earning real money. I'd suggest just going on with leveling and you will get the money eventually. The higher level you'll become the more money you'll earn and by the time you're 80 7k5 will pe peanuts.

Oh, and some money making tips: Try to sell all stuff you find on the AH. Cloth sells for quite a lot and all recipes and blue's you'll find will sell quite well. You can even sell most of you're greens to people who want to level there enchanting quickly. And never buy something from the AH. Everything there is way overpriced. Me myself have only bought some end game gear and for the rest you're better of grinding.

But in the end I would not really bother about the money. Just go on leveling and you'll get it quite soon.

PS: another way of making a lot of money is working the actionhouse. Buy things when you see them cheap, and sell them for more basicly. For more tricks find some gold guide. But beware, lot of people are against it because you're kinda screwing up the economy :-P

If you still decide to level a prof drop a message and I can give you some tips.

Best after the fact professions are taylor (needs no gathering profession) and mining if you want to sell or taylor and enchanting if you want to level a profession that will reward big cash in the end...  Tayloring will feed your enchanting with mats.

Not only that, selling high end crafted bags are the cash crop for tailors. 500 to 700g per on my server atleast for the top end.

I started a new character on a new server and despite a 4 year hiatus, went with the tried and true from the old days, selected skinning and herbalism as my two professions and sold everything on the AH (along with all cloth drops)

Stranglethorn vale was particularly profitable, I literally killed/skinned and gathered my way back and forth, not even bothering to mount up while I did every quest in the zone.

When I got to 70 I was sitting on 4300 Gold and only took me about a day to get the rest for my fast flying mount.  (I would have had it by 70 if I hadn't sent my son about 300 gold for his level 60 fast mount)

So, at this point I'd say either level up a new alt along the lines I just mentioned or go find out what is selling well on your server and then go gather the crap out of it.

I will say this, now that I'm in Northrend both professions are becoming a lot less profitable as theres more players there so the prices on the AH are lower, plus the spawn points aren't as frequent (or just overcamped).
