Looking For a long-lasting RPG

I'm asking for help because i've been searching for a type of game that doesnt seem to exist.

Basically, I'm looking for a single player rpg game with some unique elements.  I need a game that has the lifespan of a mmorpg, or longer.  Meaning, insane amounts of time spent to achieve goals like very high levels, and some kind of deep character progression.  Something like skills to level up, aside from just level, or stats, or insane amounts of items to obtain.

The closest match i've found myself is the disgaea series, but i've given that a shot on ps2 and it is too kid-like for me.  I play WoW now and then, so i can handle some degree of cartoon style, but i'm hoping to find something more mature.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

You might like Sacred 2. It plays a lot like an MMO (it's very Diablo-esque, with a huge, open, and varied game world), and it has everything that you're asking for. The game will last you for quite awhile too, since you can unlock higher difficulty settings everytime you complete the game (higher difficulty settings let you play through the game and earn more exp, get better loot, and so on) to help you get to the level cap (200, I think). The game also has an online co-op/PVP/free roam thing too. The online co-op part lets you play through the entire sp campaign with like 2-5 people, and the PVP/free roam mode opens up the entire gameworld for you to PVP/do whatever in.

Yea Sacred had a great quest system but those bugs got tedious. Lets see the best replayable rpg game is Master of Magic but unless you got a old computer or a pbex emulator your out of luck. If you can play it there is no fun like beating the Lizard Man.. hes really crafty and blows up your cities usually before you can killz him

I got excited about sacred 2 when i found out about it a while back.  But when i bought it and started playing (on my xbox360) I was seriously disappointed.  That game seemed to have potential but it was like they tried too hard to create something unique with the class system / skill system/interface and in my opinion it wasn't good. I couldn't get into it, and i tried to.

The camera angle bothered me also.  

If they altered the camera, changed the control over the character a bit, and just put in some basic rpg classes and skills it would of been fun to just go around in an open world and just randomly adventure.

When it comes down to the core of the player character, i really like how WoW did things. But the gameplay itself and the structure of quests and endgame is a huge turn-off for me.  If a game was created like WOW mixed with obilivion and less quests i'd be happy >D

Yeah, the console version of Sacred 2 is without a doubt the worst one. I originally bought the PC UK version of the game, since the expansion for Sacred 2 is only out in the UK and available on the PC, and I absolutely loved the game. But I ended up purchasing Sacred 2 again for the PS3, and it was a nightmare. The UI was terrible, the game lagged horribly (framerate was really bad), and the game was constantly pausing to load the areas. I hated it, and I can see how anyone who played the console version would hate it too.

But yeah, I really recommend trying the UK PC version if you can. The UI is a lot better (it's different from the console UI), the game doesn't lag nearly as bad. Also, if you get the expansion for the game, you can change the camera angle as well, so that it isn't top-down like Diablo. They also made a lot of adjustments to the game (classes included) with the expansion, and even added in a new class (Dragon Mage). The PC version just plays a lot better.

Dragon Age: Origins has plenty of gametime in it and is available for less than 50 bucks on Steam.

 

Mount and Blade also comes highly recommended if you don't care about graphics.
