"There will be 1 global server for Earthrise when the game goes live in February."
"There is one server for all players, no matter where in the world they are located."

It is official they will be only having one server for everyone. Which is GREAT news and I have been waiting for such announcement as that is what would probably be a game breaker for a lot of people!

That's interesting. I wonder what will happen when every single player decides to stand in the same spot. They'll organize a "stand in the same spot day!" event or something. :-)
I wonder how big the world will be and if everyone will start in the same area...
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
What you should be wondering about is how they going to handle EU coming out first and no NA release date.
The Island is large! However if they do need to make more room they can always create more islands to make room.
They're a European company. They may not have a NA server or release. NA users connect at their own risk. :-(
Maybe they'll have a European island, and then a NA island, and you can travel between them, but the NA island will be housed in NA while the Eu island will be housed in Europe. One seamless world, but some of it is run from one place, and some of it is run from another. Or NA players will just lag out and get killed.

They need an NA release as almost half of the forum users and visits are mostly NA users. It would be really bad if they did not have an NA release.
Server wise is up to debate how they will handle it to keep lag to a low. They do have devs who are experienced in server infrastructures and seem to know what they are doing. Just going to have to wait it out and see what they do with it.
All that announcement means to me is that all regions will play together. it mentions nothing about how many virtualized instances of the game world they may run. The days when 'server' meant one box in a room somewhere passed long ago.
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy.

Instances? The world is one seamless world... There is no instances or anything of that sort. That is one feature that they announced when they first revealed the game and they have stuck with it all through development and onto release. This is one of the few games that you will actually be able to say one world.
We are not talking about the same things. Be that as it may, we'll see in February.

I don't understand? Can you explain this to me? Are you talking about you have a friend and even though you guys are in the same town you guys are on a different channel or gaming world so you can't see each other?
Eve Online and Perpetuum are both "single instance" worlds. They are also both sandbox games like Earthrise. The single room idea is actually coming into existence, not leaving existence. This would lead me to believe that what they mean is that the game world is a single instance and all players occupy that single instance.
I could totally be wrong and they might just mean that they only have one really big server to run everything. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense but I have seen and heard dumber things so if anyone finds anything that clarifies the statement it might be good. :-)
*edit* They have not mentioned anything that I know of about instances like the dungeons in WoW. Will there be instances? If so, will they have a dungeon finder? Will they ever buy another computer in case their one server gets borked?
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
There is no dungeons per-say in Earthrise more like caves and tunnels from how I have heard and read it. There is no instances, 100% seamless, everything in the world is connected from what they have said (Mortal online is an example). Bosses are also unique to my understanding and are one time kinda deal thing from what I have heard. I don't even know if it is safe to call them bosses.
its like fallen earth no dungeons , your able to enter like a cave or building like an instance but your in the same world per say.
So its the same but your not leaving that world, I hope that helps... These games now a days are trying to get away from WOW type instances, unless there fantasy based so , and also people hate loading screens as I do so thats the point behide this.
WE will not get loading screens with this way ..

If they provide the game as a download, I dont see a reason why they wont have it available to anyone. But since they do have a boxed version too, i believe they might have that at a later time in NA from a NA publisher. There is no need to have a NA publisher if the game is a download.
Im pretty happy they decided to go with 1 global server
however, i wish they would find the NA partner soon, and both EU and NA to launch at the same date so there will be no disadvantages, just saying
i hope the world will be filled with enough people !! ( since so many have lost interest over the past years )
So What Now?
per se, people. per se, not per say, thanks... and it means "in itself".
I can't speak for the game, know nothing about it. However, it is possible to do a large single seamless world and still spread the world over many physical machines in a cluster. If this is what they are doing, I'm very interested to see how they pull it off. Large population ( > 10,000) non-instanced worlds are a cool achievement.
I think I have a new game on my "must play" list.
