OK I admit I was an EQ2 guy till I got bored as heck with it so my start in WoW was quite late.  I was up to my mid 60's when WotLK came out and I pretty much stopped playing to give Vanguard another shot.  So the other day I patched WoW and started some new toons.  I had this idea to have a healer do nothing but instances and then have some other toons run the new world content and farm mats.  So far I have three mid 20's toons (I level them all at the same time unless I get a solid PUG and reinstance)  and I noticed something kind of odd.  The healer that I have running nothing but instances is leveling faster and is geared out the rear while my open world toons are kind of just wandering around thwacking things.  Do not get me wrong the open world content is fun but the gear and the specs you run your toons at would not hold up in an instance run.  For example bring a holy preist is king in isntances but falls flat in the open world and the same deal with a viable non druid tank.  So my question is this; asside from DPS do we basically need to pick a line (instances or open world) till we reach 30 and can swap out our abilities?

Also it is really easy to tell when your party members are open world players in the way they play their toons and how they are geared.  Instancing requires a little more shal we say impulse control and a tad bit of logic also by the time you reach a mid level 25, 35, etc you need to be geared to have a chance to run the instance.  Again this is mostly from a healer/tank role all the DPS can do what ever untill later levels when they need to shell out the numbers.
