Forsaken World: Jon Belliss Interview

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Perfect World Entertainment's Forsaken World has officially enntered closed beta testing. MMORPG.com's Bill Murphy recently caught up with producer Jon Belliss to talk about Forsaken World. The conversation wandered from the ambitious nature of the game to the potentially contentious player base. Check out our exclusive interview and then let us know your thoughts!

MMORPG: One of the more ambitious features of the game is the ability for ten players per server to take on the role of gods. Could you elaborate a little on this feature? How do players become gods, and what does that mean for the rest of the players?

JONATHAN BELLISS: The God System is definitely one of the most interesting features in Forsaken World. Each week, ten players will be able to become gods based upon their highest achievements. As a god, players will inherit special skills related to their god title that can be shared with others within their server. A player can become the God of Transportation if he or she explored the world more than anyone else that week and gain the ability to teleport. This is easily one of the most ambitious features of Forsaken World, and the development team is spending a ton of time to ensuring that the system is entertaining, functional, and balanced.

Nothing new here, just the chance for more PW marketing

How old is this interview? I would assume it was in the last couple of days so where's the questions about beta access, the missleading supply of lottery  registration (sry beta keys), the outpouring on the official forums, the bad mouthing of people against PW practices? Even yesterday sites were advertising keys with the phrase, get your key, download the client and start playing

No-where because either the interview is more than a week old (apologies to Bill Murphy if that is the case) or it's a question of don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I understand the advertising revenue must be quite good from PWE so I really didn't expect anything and like I said before you don't really wanna upset that but it would have been a nice journalistic change to have asked some gritty questions.

Yes am raging but nothing compared to the official forums and yes I will play the game eventually (not when CBT started as we were all led to believe up until a cpl of weeks ago), and it better be fkin good

I really wish you all had asked about the whole Closed Beta fiasco.  Personally it's not a huge deal to me, but I would like to know more about what happened and why they continue to give out beta keys that appear to provide immediate access to the CBT, but will not actually provide access for 4 weeks or more.

You misunderstand my post.  I DON'T WANT TO PLAY this game.  I never did.  I don't know when beta is, was, or will be.  I am personally interested in the underlying story about closed beta selection though.  I like how you say "no one cares how they allocate their beta keys."  Clearly myself and the previous poster do.  That would preclude your statement about no one and this also does not take into account the multiple threads on this forum where other people both express your point of view as well as interest in what occurred with beta selection.  Maybe you should "get over" my interest and inquiry for more info as it appears to bother you a great deal.

I think it is poor form for a forum site that has multiple threads concerning a specific topic to overlook this topic when interviewing one of the creator's of said game.  If the interview was done prior to the events that occurred then fine.  I simply made my post because in the future if the same situation occurs I would like to see the question asked.

PWE dont deserve  my money no more, because they treat their old costumers as a mount of trash like they did with me.

I am subscrive in pwe since 2008 i already spend more than 5000 dolares and now i m like trash to them.

is ridiculous the way they managed the closed beta phase doing some kind of P2W, and ignoring their costumers wish i never saw such atitude in all my experience in mmorpg games.

Dont forget they are rich now and we are trash..

great work pwe i bean all this time defending your company from bad feedback but right now i will be 1 more who wanna see your company faill in near future because u loose all honestity and respect from your costumers and good luck with liers and machine of making money. Take my last 2 cents BASTARDS.

    Hey mate,

As a matter of fact my interview was crafted before the hullaballoo about beta access.  Had it been done after the fact, I still might not have included it in this particular interview either.  Mainly because this one was meant to overview some of the game's mechanics.  However, I do think a Q&A for the issue you bring up is in order and I just might posit it to PWE soon.

It would be nice. I think it's ridiculous that they continue handing out beta keys, as they've been doing for months now, then tell people oh hey...you thought we meant this beta? LOL.

It's a stupid practice that does not need to become a popular one. Grill them on it, skewer them, roast them on a spit fire then feed them to the dogs.

Or yanno...just ask them wtf. That's fine, too.

My brother tried this game out, and it totally sucked. Gameplay fails, graphics fail, very laggy... and you don't feel like you're a part of a world at all. Another Asian fail MMO. 'but Forsaken World seems to be upping the ante by aiming to be the kind of experience people would normally pay a monthly subscription for' <-- Lol, totally not, even Flyff is better ;D

Another disappointed PWE customer.  Another over-hyped game driven by their marketing machine.  No thank you, PWE has lost my vote of support.

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it.  I understand why you did not ask the question here due to time and also not being appropriate to the format.  I look forward to hearing if PWE has any comments about beta in the future.  Thanks again.

Well Perfect World's definition of "complement" certainly does not fit the definition you cited.

I thought it fit the "either of two parts or things needed to complete the whole" part of the definition.
