They really are not that different, and no most of what people are complaining about is their gaming preferences not actually bad core gameplay.
Well, that's it. When someone says that FFXIV is similar to UO, you know all objectivity has been slaughtered mercilessly with a blunt object. There are no words to describe this level of rose-tinted glasses. The glasses are so tinted, they effectively cause the user to be blind.

On my server, there is about 2500 people on at peak; all the sites provided gave about 200+ reviews, my server alone has more than 10x that amount. there are 17 servers, average is about 1900 people per server = 32,000 CE people total 200+ confirmed (trolling reviews) divided by 32000 is .06% of the current player base.
The haters stop playing and review, the guys that like the game, play it
Now im going back in to craft
I've seen this defense before. Aion, warhammer, hellgate london, etc.
And non of them have Final Fantasy in the name, nor the money SE has, so whats your point
One of them had Star Wars in the name and the money of SOE. So what's YOUR point.
And before SOE took over SWG was great, I played for nearly two years till they completly screwed it up, SWG was fine at launch and got worse as the game got older because of the crap SOE did.
I wish i could find some japanese reviews from ffxi release, before the US got 1 year of fixes and an expansion.
SOE took over what? SOE was always the developer of SWG. Are you thinking of Vanguard? You have to be because there's no way you played SWG for 2 years and didn't realize SOE was the developer from day one.
Or you are lying. Either way it has no relevance to the original point. SWG had both a strong brand (much stronger than Final Fantasy) and backing/funding from a giant publisher and yet it still failed, well before NGE at that.

McDonald's cheeseburgers are similar to Burger King's. Just because I said UO and FFXIV are similar does not mean that I believe they are the same. There are distinct differences, but there are distinct similarities as well. Your inability to acknowledge that only demonstrates your own inability to look at it objectively.

Listen. I love ff14. I play it daily. I dont argue the bad, but I feel there is a lot of good that other MMO's dont have.
Bottom line, The mass majority, Amazon, Gamesondeck, etc etc are reviewing this game on average a 1/5.
That is the reason for this post
That is on topic
That is the bottom line.
I know there are so many fanbois (i am one) but if you cant see this then you are either PAID by SE or you are the dumbest person in the world.
sorry but the mass majority is not 200+ reviews, the mass majority is the 32,000 players on with the early access. If when the SE comes out and the reviews stay the same, then i'll admit im wrong, but the game will still have a good following to keep going strong

They really are not that different, and no most of what people are complaining about is their gaming preferences not actually bad core gameplay. Most of the arguments boil down to " I just don't like how they did that" or "that is not how such and such game does it". People really need to learn how to differentiate preferences from style. Just because people are complaining does not automatically mean that what they are complaining about is a bad idea.

We haven't really seen any of the games with terrible/failed launches actually launch with low numbers. There are always gamers buying these MMOs in large quantities early on, even pre-orders. The real question is how many will stay after a month or two. At this point, no one knows for sure.
parrotpholk-Because we all know the miracle patch fairy shows up the night before release and sprinkles magic dust on the server to make it allllll better.
My point was not to use the reviews to validate FFXIV, but to demonstrate that he was way off. But, touche anyways.

Good counter-example :P I do wanna point out both scores are based off of an average from 40 or less people though.
That's why before I started this thread I wanted to make sure I got a bunch of different sources. In the end I decided to link the site I did because it has now an average rating of 424 users. And for the most part the user comments below had more to say than the Japanese Amazon.
I value personal reviews and I especially wanted to see how Japan was receiving this title, but at the same time I rely on myself to choose whether or not to pay and/or pay to play a game.
Simply pointing out that a 3 on Amazon is a bad average. People are looking for between 4 to 5.
Not enough people have written reviews for FFXIV to be relevant in my opinion. So far the game is ranked at 7.2 on this website and considering the amount of haters here I would say that is impressive.

I just don't believe that those reviews are indicative to the overall Japanese reception of FFXIV; in much the same way that the Amazon NA reviews or the reviews on this site are not a good enough indicator.

In case you don't read reviews, no publication would rate 72% as a good mark. On a quick scan it seems like the average figure F2P MMOs are getting.

Totally. All statistics that show only a sample of the entire population are going to fail to account for every variable.
What the information I gathered from various sites DID tell me however, was that the same issues the Westerner's were having with this game, apparently so were the Japanese.
While I understand the argument against believing in the validity of online amateur reviews, I read these and for some it only takes 4-5 reviews that consistently point out issues they personally felt to put them off from buying the game.

Honestly I think Presby is just a paid employee of SE. (join date 7/12/10?)
I have played this game since every day of Open Beta till just 5 minutes ago.
The game is not even close to complete to be called relevant of a AAA mmo. I am a dedicated Square fanboi, I love Final Fantasy and have played every FF game and beaten it 5 different ways. This game has a horrible UI (even for a console port), huge lack of content, very repetative in all aspects of gameplay, and the developers have stated that the game wont really be complete until the PS3 launch.
(to prove I am not a troll, My pugilist is 12, the past 2 new skills I received were crappy evasion buffs that last 5 seconds and don't even cause my hero to evade, I sit in the same 3 camps doing up to 8 battleleves and finish them within 2 hours, After that I either can grind on those same mobs or log out. I have to wait another 36 hours for those 8 leves to reset. Honestly once the NEW GAME SERATONIN wears off, this game will be lame and boring)
This MMO was either rushed or they could not afford to spend any more time on developing content. I honestly feel they did not want to invest in a NEW team. They used their internal rescources (ff11 team) to rush a new MMO title. The FF11 team was sufficating from also working on FF11.
These reviews are ALL the general conception, you honestly cannot believe that once the normal version release happens people will do a 180 and love the game. Unless there is a NEW miracle patch at normal release, the same general conception will exist.
I believe the OP made a link of a 1.57/5 review site.
You are a fool for thinking that is all Troll reviews. Presby has not even played this game it seems like. Complete North American SE employee.
